I have a lot of clients in Asia so doing an hour or so if work on Boxing Day is not unusual. I actually like doing some work between Xmas and New Year - fewer disturbances and time to think.
Bright side though i have booked next Wednesday off so wont be in until next Thursday, one of the perks not working mondays, before xmas i booked off 1 day to have 6 off now 1 day to have another 5 days off. Not so bad, still feels like i shouldn't be in...
Worked from home yesterday but came into the office today. I am planning on removing the mountain of tinsel and Christmas decs and then do a bit of online shopping, but I might do a bit of work if I get bored!
Doing loads of unpaid work, but not in work if that makes sense, cracking day in rural Darrzzet this morning, those working today thanks for the keeping our economy ticking over.
Everyday is a working day, even worked Christmas Day. We out a FB appeal to anyone alone on Christmas Day and had 12 requests for visits from our dogs. Sadly we could only accept two and we went off to visit two elderly folk taking along all four dogs and one of Mrs TCE's home made Christmas puddings. One tiny close half the neighbours came out to see the dogs and the elderly lady got invited to someone's home to spend the rest of the day with them. Best job in the world........

Any Lifer working in a bank? Do you have to work on the last day (and night) of the year no matter what day it is? I get that as bank employees we have to stay till late night on December 31 but 30?! Eight days without a break.... What's most ridiculous about it is that on December 30 and 31 there will be no corporate business as it is closed. What will we do in the office?! Chat from 8.30am to 5.30pm?

I think I may just manage to avoid the temptation to seek a career change in the Chinese banking sector, though, if you can manage chatting in the office for an eight hour shift, you may well be the ideal candidate for employment in the Northern Ireland Civil Service....

I don't think it's that uncommon in any sector in China, my school will do 10 days straight in the new year for our 'winter course' happens every year at every school I've worked at, luckily everyone gets 4 days off at the end, but it's hardly ideal! Lucky for me I'm on a months paternity leave, so I'll miss all that BS this year, I only have to pop in for 2 days to train new teachers, not bad for a months salary

I'm in, in Barclays in Canary Wharf. Have a few US clients, who generally have a 31 December year end, but they're far more relaxed these days than they used to be. All a little quiet, when it used to be manic as they tried to sort their year end books out.
Good time to get a load of compliance done, tidy up of client stuff that our bosses have decreed is vital, dress down and I have music playing all day (a bit of Stone Roses just being turned up! )!! I'll leave shortly and probably earlier again on Monday, but I typically pick up on emails when out/home anyway.

Thank you, but the rewards are watching other people's faces and how much it means to them. It was very much a last minute thing, before we took the dogs out for their exercise we asked the question and got an amazing response. Sadly some people do ask the impossible, like can you pop in at 1.17 and leave again at 1.34 and make sure the dogs are clean as we have new carpets. Requests for being at opening of shops are met with requests for payment.

Ten days and then four days off actually means four days off in two weeks so that's acceptable..... By the way I've always envied teachers as they have winter and summer breaks! Me and my colleagues were just talking about this at lunch break today. We all kind of wish we had chosen this occupation lol...
