Lyrics you just can't understand

I'm sure there's been a thread on this before, but I can't find it. Anyway ..........

George Ezra - Budapest

It sounds to me something like :-

"Oh for you, oh for you rbevido" - WTF !

But it's actually :-

"But for you
Woh, you
Woh, I'd Leave it all - I listened a hundred times & never would have got that, in fact I still can't "hear it".

"Budapest"

My house in Budapest
My, my hidden treasure chest,
Golden grand piano
My beautiful Castillo

You
Woh, you
Woh, I'd leave it all

My acres of a land
Th' I hav' achieved
It may be hard for you to,
Stop and believe

But for you
Woh, you
Woh, I'd Leave it all

Woh, for you
Woh, you
Woh, I'd leave it all

Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
Baby if you hold me
Then all of this will go away

My many artifacts
The list goes on
If you just say the words
I I'll up and run

To you
Woh, you
Woh, I'd leave it all

Woh, to you
Woh, you
Woh, I'd leave it all

Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
Baby if you hold me
Then all of this will go away

Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
Baby if you hold me
Then all of this will go away

My friends and family
They, don't understand
They fear they'd lose so much
If, you take my hand

But, for you
Woh, you
Woh, I'd lose it all

Woh, for you
Woh, you
Woh, I'd lose it all.

Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
Baby if you hold me
Then all of this will go away

Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
Baby if you hold me
Then all of this will go away

My house in Budapest
My, my hidden treasure chest,
Golden grand piano
My beautiful castillo

You
Woh, you
Woh, I'd leave it all.

Woh, for you
Woh, you
Woh, I'd leave it all

    It is no wonder
    It's a perfect pander
    While they were dancing
In that bar room last night

The first is Culture, the second is Toots and the Maytels.
  • I believe in mil cows, you turn me on, you sexy thing. Hot chocolate.
  • At the end of 'Mr Blue Sky', it is supposed to say 'please turn me over'...except it doesn't, it's just a strange noise
  • From about 1.08 I always hear Tony Jiminez's name...

  • The Israelites. Desmond Decker, I still don't understand it.
  • That Sheffield United song about greasy chip butties
  • 'your so vain you probably think this songs about you'

surely if he's that vain he thinks the song isn't about him……

or if he does, he's right, so really, what is the point of this line ?
  • Anything by Paloma Faith and all the other british female singers that seem to sing in that weird fake accent nowadays.

I totally agree and hopefully you'll agree with me that it's the most lightweight piece of singer-songwriter, radio-friendly, so inoffensive that it is offensive, middle of the road, bland musical recording since anything by that nondescript bloke in the bloody beenie hat.

    Shit.

When he sings the Israelites it can sound like "my ears are alight"

She wrote that song about Warren Beattie (if you didn't know).

Just read up on the song on Wiki, wow so many men trying to claim it is about them, makes me appreciate what Carly was getting at .

"'Whats the frequency Kenneth' is your Benzedrine. I was brain dead locked out, numb, not up to speed. I thought I pegged you, idiot's dream. Tunnel vision from the outsider's screen. I never understood, the frequency. You wore our expectations like an armoured suit."

The first line is a reference to something a mugger shouted at a news reporter as he kicked him in. But the rest... I dunno. He sings it with such conviction I have to believe he knows what he's taking about.
  • The Killers & REM are 2 of my favourite groups, but I have to admit the lyrics are often out there ..........
  • Up to par and Katie bars the kitchen signs but not me in

More enigma from Michael Stipe in the 1981 REM song Sitting Still

I used to happily sing along "my wife and my kids they fuck off and a-leave me". I am led to believe it should be "pack up and a-leave me" but I still prefer my version :-)

And other songs that can be mis-heard

    It's a hard egg - Bonnie Tyler

Go and get stuffed - Billy Ocean

  • 'I'm thinking of you, and the things you do to me, that make me love you, now I'm living in Bexleyheath'.

And I always sing along to the Bee Gees classic 'massive chewy tits'.

Michael Stipe Re. West of the Fields during the Dublin shows.

"The bridge, according to the internet...I mean the lyrics, they are what they are. I wrote them, I don't know what they are. The lyrics are 'the animals. How strange. Try. Try to stick it in'. I guarantee you in all my drug-addled 20s I never wrote that line. Never! "
  • Whitney Houston - I will always love chew - I assume she just liked a snack?
