Simon Church is the best striker we, Charlton, have had since Yann Kermorgant.
He accelerates to block the defender, to stop him from even thinking about advancing. You don't notice that after all our dreary sideways balls at The Valley, when everyone troops off at half-time, we are still 0-0.
Late in the second half, our midfield is vacant - as usual - and our opponents pass wide, skin a weak defence, and swing dangerous crosses in to our box.
And score.
I have never seen Igor Vetokele rush ten yards at a defender, anticipating his next move - as Churchy does. Or close him down. Or worry the keeper. Is Vetokele injured - or badly coached? Fifteen thousand fans at The Valley demand far better.
That post has spoilt it for me. I thought you were just barking but now I just think you are on a wind up.

When you say striker do you mean that he withdraws his labour at short notice and places demands on the management for better pay and conditions?
When you analyse VF's comment in this case i believe he is referring to Church being more of a striker in the sense of him working as the chief tester in the Bryant and May match factory, for any other interpretation would be just plain ridicoludikus....

QPR Team News Paul Konchesky is in line to make his Queens Park Rangers debut against the club where he began his professional career.
The 34-year-old left-back, who arrived on a season-long loan from Leicester City earlier this week, started out at Charlton in 1997 and made more than 150 appearances for the club.
Charlie Austin and Leroy Fer, who Ramsey said are likely to leave the club this summer, are also in line to feature at the Valley.
Charlton Team News Charlton will be without striker Igor Vetokele for their Sky Bet Championship opener against London rivals QPR.
Another player set to miss out the start of the campaign is goalkeeper Stephen Henderson, so Nick Pope is poised to stand in.
Zakarya Bergdich, Patrick Bauer, El-Hadji Ba, Simon Makienok, Ahmed Kashi, Cristian Ceballos and Naby Sarr have all been signed over the summer and the seven new recruits are available to make their debuts.
Also completely gutted that I can't get Saturday off work...working in retail is so bloody annoying.. would much prefer a mon-fri rota :@. Was buzzing for this game only to find out I had to work Saturday and my boss wont let me have it off as I had a day off to go to the cricket last week. Sing a tiny bit louder to make up for my absence
I hope Charlie Austin plays tomorrow. He is less than a week away from signing a contract that will make him, his family and immediate descendants financially secure for life. All he now has to now is avoid any injury during 90 minutes of football. He has to play it safe against heavy tackles 50/50 balls or self inflicted injury by exerting his body too hard.

At Dulwich, Stephen Henderson was injured in the warm-up. Twenty minutes later, Jackson gives a nurse's arm to Wiggins, with a look of kind resignation.
It's odd that half our first team couldn't face the plastic pitch at St Trinian's, and were sent to graze the turf in Dulwich - to do what? What was Luzon doing in Belgium, while our 'first team' lost 4-0?
It's peculiar that our own manager wasn't watching this unhealthy mix of old pros, youth, and trialists from Staines. We were taken apart in the second half by a bunch of amateurs.
Nick Pope let it through his legs at Southend. We lost. This isn't a team that can cope with the rigours of the Championship.

It starts tomorrow.
I know I should ignore this comment but am confused... But when did we play Staines?
I do not have exact figures, so leave for others to estimate on expenditure, but I would like those that post on here decrying the players we have bought, to say which British players (they seem to think they are best), they would have brought in, but only for the same approximate money that RD brought in. It would be interesting then to compare teams, to what we have and one they would have

Easy!!!

Here we go again then and a tough one to start with. I do not think QPR will go up and I think player sales will undo their promotion bid. However the game is too soon for us and I can see a 2-1 defeat on the cards. Hopefully we will play well and the season will be good for us all.
At home at The Valley, we ought to stamp our authority. We failed last season - all the sideways pussy-footing, unable to win a tackle in midfield - then the ball goes back our keeper, trapped. We lost.
When Ben Hamer collects the ball, he runs to the edge of his area and sends a laser-like pass: low and accurate to his strikers. It was true for Benson, who would approach obliquely, jump, and miss. But Kermorgant runs, wins, and would nod Bradley Wright-Phillips through on goal.
It's a proof of sorts that the bookies have us second-favourites for relegation. Down with Rotherham. Yet we landed in the top half last season.
Every single club from Darenth Heathside to Manchester United have midfielders like Jordan Cousins. They are simply ordinary players doing a routine job. We have bought Ba from Sunderland and another bloke from Spurs, and neither of them has played a first-team game for two years.
Meanwhile, Jordan Rhodes scores again - and Patrick Bamford netted a hat-trick in mid-week. When Reza, failed here, shuffles off to Kuwait, and comes back as sub at our friendly at Chelmsford - we lost 2-1, note - you do wonder.
Isn't it about time we bought some good players?
Viewfinder, thank God you're alive. I thought you might've been shot with all the communists for crossing disabled mothers living in Bexleyheath
