Have Forest ripped off our Valley Floyd Road song ?

I'm sure I heard their fans singing 'mist rolling in from the Trent' just now

  • They've sung it for years.

Were we first or them ?
  • Them. God we've done this to death on here loads of times before.

Well I didn't know that - sorry for asking !!
  • We knicked it .

Thank you (BTW careful - CL spelling police will be after you)
  • Forest nicked it from us.
The gentleman followers of Charlton would never stop so low as to tread on another teams fans creative toes.
  • No, I think the common consensus is that they sung it first and we nicked it.

No harm in asking though. cant be expected to trawl through every topic that’s ever been posted every time you want to post something.

  • Wings released Mull of Kintyer in 1978.

One of us or Nottingham Forest were on TV all the time, in the top flight and winning European cups around that time.  The other were struggling in the 2nd and 3rd tiers.

Unless Peter Taylor was as good at finding songs as he was players I think I could make a fair guess who stole it from who.

Sorry mate, but that doesn’t make any sense.

What difference does success or TV exposure make to who made up a song?
  • Did we start singing it at Selhurst? Or at least more often then, it would make sense to have a main club song about the ground after we were kicked out and fighting to return, as the ground became the focus then

When would Forest have heard us sing it?

Doubt they picked it up off twitter

My memory of Selhurst was that we sang 'Show me the way to go home' there - I don't recall 'Valley Floyd Road' pre our return to the Valley - might be wrong though

In any event ours sounds better I think and we have had an opera singer sing our version

Surely 'Show me the way to go home' is unique to Charlton as well ?

We played them in the late 80's yes when we got promoted to Division 1. I couldn't tell you when we last played before then.

What about a Palace fan hanging on a string?

always assumed it was an original, but I’ve never heard anyone else sing it and some of my non-Charlton mates think it’s brilliant!

Show them the way to go home, They're tired and they want to go to bed - for a wank! Cos they're only half a football team, Compared to the boys in red", would ring out around northern grounds, where London teams would also be treated a chorus of "Shit on the Cockneys, shit on the Cockneys tonight..." to the tune of Roll Out the Barrel.
