Wonder if he was on Holden's radar in the summer having been at Bristol City when he was.
Of the three goals he scored in L1, two were against us btw, including his first for Sheff Wed, which clearly escaped the notice of one of their so called supporters quoted above.
I'm sure all wish him well and hope he settles quickly. He'll need to, although I won't be making my mind up after his first 45 mins as I do believe it takes players time to bed in, but as of now, he's representing Charlton and I hope he excels.
To be fair, scoring against us, doesn't really make him quality. Let's face it, it's harder to score at a massage parlour.
If he's replacing Fraser, he could bump into someone and have more impact.
We’ve probably signed him to paint Frasers house in Dundee
In their promotion season last year, from Boxing Day he started just 3 of their 26 league and play off games, came on as a 2nd half sub in 9 games, unused sub in 10 games and didn’t make the squad in 4 (inc. play off final)
Decent enough score in scrabble if you get certain letters in the right place and you're not pressurised to find the U to deal with the Q , so all things considered , I'm happy with the signing
“Lots of energy” you’ll tend to have that when running around without getting involved much!!
He’s the midfield version of Terrel Thomas but Terrel has better ball mastery! Dobson, Watson, Campbell, McGrandles & Fraser all produce more with the ball. Dobson, Anderson & McGrandles all disrupt the game better without it.
I’m a glass half full most of the time but I’m struggling to find a positive angle…other than he’s signed as Dobbo’s number 2.
The reality is that we're stuck with Appleton, so let's give him the lummoxes he wants for now. If it works we can mutter to ourselves about the standard of football and if it doesn't it'll speed up his departure. At the very least it's a midfielder who isn't Fraser, and there's literally no way Bakinson can do worse than Fraser's current form.
Now that's a hostage to fortune if ever I saw one...
Personally, I can't remember the slightest thing about him, so I'm in the wait and see camp, but agree with the concern that it's yet another loan.

So you must have seen him play a lot then?
A decent amount of times. Mostly from last season and few times this season, admittedly this season not in as much detail as last.
Without knowing anything about him, my starting assumption is we’ve signed a younger Darren Pratley
Without knowing anything about him, my starting assumption from the comments I've read is that we've signed a younger, fitter, better looking @AFKABartram. I also believe he is slightly taller, just slightly.
All these January signings on loan are just a roll of the dice, some work out, most don’t. Just have to hope we get lucky with the two fellas we signed today. Either way good to see Kirk and Bobic have gone
Well Nigel Pearson definitely wasn't a fan at Bristol City and Danny Rohl at Sheff Wed has let him go but Kieran McKenna at Ipswich like him. Is I guess he's more of a L1 player than Championship. It's hard to distinguish between his good reviews and not so good ones, it seems like when he's good he really is good and mostly plays as a holding or defensive midfielder. He's out of contract in the summer and in that context is playing for his next gig so I imagine we'll get his best efforts. I'm glass half full about him and think he'll be good for the squad.

Yeah I just learned about the out of contract in the summer and that makes this make more sense for me. If we like him we try to keep him, if not, not. But it seems he won't be going back to Wednesday.
If he stops teams running directly through the middle of us then I don't care if he can't actually kick a ball that's not already got a shin attached to it. He's been part of more successful League One promotions in the last two years than the rest of our clowns so I'll take that experience. Sounds like Appleton sees him as an option as a box to box but if Bakinson actually knows something about positioning I'd be happy for him to sit and Dobson to be allowed to go AWOL further up the pitch and win it back higher.

I’m pretty useless at football and I wouldn’t be that much worse than Fraser at the moment.
At 6' 3" I am assuming he wins more than his fair share of headers (nothing for granted in a Charlton shirt) and is a defensive midfielder, so even if we used him for the last 10 mins of games he might be worth his stay.
Two years ago, Ipswich Town were going nowhere in mid table. They had problems in the middle of the park. Players like Scott Fraser weren’t providing energy and they regularly left Sam Morsy trying to win the midfield battle on his own. Sound familiar?
The day they signed Tyreeq Bakinson on loan from a Championship club they sat eight points off the playoffs and eleven points off the relegation zone, having played a game more than both those teams.
They didn’t make the playoffs that season, but they did solve some of the midfield issues that plagued them.
Between Bakinson’s arrival and the end of the season, Ipswich’s ppg increased from 1.34 to 1.75 and they lost only three games after the January window closed. Bakinson was a big contributor, he played 17 of 20 and started 14 of 20.
Ipswich opted not to take up the option to buy that summer as they moved on to better options for their push for automatics the following season.
He sounds like a limited footballer built in the Darren Pratley mold and he may well not be the long term solution. But if he’s what we need in the middle of the park for six months to arrest the malaise and help others around him play better, improving the team as a whole then I’m all for it.

A very good relevant stat Thanks Callum The most positive thing I have read He's not for the future based on that and it goes against Scott's comments However maybe they realise relegation is more of a possibility than they let on
Sums up this self flagellation social media group perfectly. What is the point of this nonsense?
Err - Every transfer is a roll of the dice. The expectation here is however beyond all reason.
Please tell me where in the squads of 2022/23 & 2023/24 pre season you saw a core of Championship talent to sustain a promotion campaign. Anywhere? Even a hint?
What, you just expected the; - new investors and SMT to magic one within the 6 weeks left in the transfer window? - players representatives in dialogue with competitors for 7 months just to wait for us? - Unauthorised SE7 to talk to players while waiting for the EFL to sanction the takeover?
SE7 could do shit until the EFL said so. Step anywhere outside that box and you face league penalty. And you just know after the last decade the EFL just loves Charlton !!!
Such is the reality of a delayed takeover* Had this group taken control in January 2022 I might concede a point of concern. They didn’t. Such dalliance was in preparation for a failed takeover (to the point of litigation) and carries little relevance.
( We had the same nonsense with Sandgaard in 2020 with the transfer embargo lifted with just 16days left in the transfer window)
And now you expect a major quality revamp in the 4 weeks of a January window which is traditionally the most difficult trading period of the season? On what level of reality do you operate. Anyone, anywhere throwing money around at this point carries the significant risk of merely putting lipstick on a pig.
My how the value set has changed. I remember taking my coaching badges at Bisham Abbey in the early 1970s. The closing remarks from the FA North Regional coaching Director who ran the course under Brian Lee the then FA Coaching supremo (& Manager of Wycombe Wanderers ) were very simple.
« Although you may now have your pieces of paper never reject any opinion on football. There is always something to learn ».
All of that is decades before the arrival of the all embracing knowledge of social media. Today this signing is described as - it is not a good look? Is that how you now define your support? Every signing has to carry a good look?
Still if a marquee signing in League 1 is the management prerequisite in the interests of « a good look » who am I question it?
God forbid the expectations if we ever return to the Championship.
Forgive me I was rather hoping the issue was whether Bakinson can play in the EFL. I will counter social media assessments in that in his previous 3 seasons, professional qualified coaches, many with longstanding industry experience, have awarded him the starting shirt 64 times.
If he were still appearing at Sheffield Wednesday he likely wouldn't be available. Indeed he was rumoured to be heading to Standard Liege but for their transfer embargo. I suspect the loan suits both parties. He gets to put himself in the shop window and we get to see whether he is worth a bigger contract.
Crucially for our needs right now he is a grown up.
Within in our current set up across our 47 outfield players, he now ranks as 7th* in the currently comparable (3 season) EFL senior experience: May 124, Dobson 117, Fraser 110, McGrandles 102 - inj, Jones 94, Camara 80 - inj, Edun 65 - (Other numbers are available) It is not about age or years in the game but wearing the shirt.
* Fiorini, with the 20-21 season in the Netherlands, over 3 seasons won the starting shirt 78 times. I cannot speak to his match fitness.
To this point it reflects Appleton had barely 5 fit senior players who’ve functioned for 3 successive seasons. You go rotate that senior squad sunshine! It is a barely a 3rd of the core senior squad requirement.
There is a time and place for emerging talent, the one season wonders and indeed the 2nd season syndrome sufferers but you need a core that has already travelled that journey. I mean it really isn’t complicated. When you go to work you expect to work with people who know their job - right?
You don’t think a senior pro;
looking around a match day dressing room knows who can/ can’t do their job?
can look at an opponents team sheet and not know who to target and test?
doesn’t know who is going to help secure the weekly bonuses which pay his bills.
All can respect talent but if you don’t have the physicality, mentality and game experience to compete a senior pro knows he can only do so much.
No matter the individual age right now in terms of competing for and winning the shirt grown ups are required.
Is there still a journey to travel in this window? Absolutely.

That upturn in form was also around the same time they stopped starting Macauley Bonne.
But team stats really aren't much use as markers for individual performance. There are 21 other players on the pitch, 4 officials and 2 managers all influencing the game.

With plenty of physical strength welcome Tyreeq
Its more bullshit

We'll see
I think we might just have got ourselves one hell of a player on this early showing.
