Random Possessions

It occurred to me yesterday when in the garden that I’ve had about half a dozen road traffic cones in my possession for, possibly decades. A couple of yellow triangle ones, and a few of the standard red and white.

I cannot for the life of me remember how or when I acquired them. Or why I’ve never got rid of them.

Anyone else got any random possessions?

  • A Rabbit trap from amazon.

I moved into a pretty rural area a few years ago and we have a lot if rabbits that are a nuisance if they get in the wrong place. I am surrounded by grass ,woodland, vegetation etc and very naively assumed that they would all be coaxed into a tiny mesh contraption wherein lurks a few bits of carrot and lettuce

If you need a hand mate, I can get them down to a manageable level for you.

Don’t our possessions say something about us?

Do you resemble a traffic cone?;)
  • A bathroom mirror we've had for about 20 years and four house moves. Has never been used and probably never will be.

Got a couple in the garage....roadworkers left them behind 5-6 years ago, handy if we are having a delivery to keep some space for parking.
  • My late aunt and uncle once owned a bungalow in Orpington. Many years after they moved in, there was a problem with the roof. When the repair man went into the loft to check what was up, he found a cement mixer sitting on the cross beams (it had nothing to do with the roof leak) .. NOTE, uncle did not put the mixer in his loft  :o

I have a small piece of white marble from the Taj Mahal.  I didn't chip it off or anything, they were doing refurb work on it when I was there and there were loads of bits just lying around.

It was just another in a long list of ancient monuments inevitably covered in scaffolding whenever I visit.  Apart from the Eiffel Tower but that's made of scaffolding anyway.
My dad did a similar thing in Athens, the building on top of the hill. He filled his pockets up with loose stone that they didn't want according to him.
He put them in a small rockery and they have become the family marbles.

I also have a small bit of stone from the area of the Taj Mahal. When I went there I went to the workshop where they do a bit restoration work. I bought a bit of their inlay work.
It aint that good, bloody horrible to be brutally honest, I gave it to my sister to cherish.
  • I have a small piece of the Berlin Wall.
  • Once woke up with an 8ft black and yellow car park barrier in my bedroom

Sadly, there were no holidays, no sun, no sex and no pistols involved.
  • A couple of bolts from the armco on the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans and also carbon fibre scraps off Thierry Boutson's Toyota that he totalled there in 1999. Not sure why I took them, they've been in a draw in the garage for over 20 years.

Did you removing the bolts lead to the Toyota being totalled?. Would it have just gently scraped along the Armco elsewise?
  • A 30ft ‘Macdonald’s opening soon’ banner that was on the hoarding around the Yorkshire Grey pub after the golden arched cnuts bought the site.
It came into my possession as I made my way home from Catford dogs one Saturday night 30ish + years ago. I may have been inebriated.
I took it home (was still living with parents), rolled it out in the back garden and woke my parents up to announce my acquisition, insisting they view it in its glory.
I got the feeling my dad had a sense of pride as we both drank in the Grey and was gutted when it closed, but he dare show the pride in front of my unimpressed Mum.
Sunday morning, nursing a sore head I was woken by the sound of a helicopter. The helicopter also woke my mum who convinced herself that it was a police helicopter and the unfurled sign in our back garden would bring unwanted attention so she went out in her dressing gown to roll the sign up and put it in the shed.
I think and hope it’s still there today.
  • I've got a shot gun cartridge (unused) which my daughters then boyfriend left at our place some 18 years ago! Don't want it, but don't know how to safely get rid of it and I can't give any answers about it!

Are they the ones with the Charlton badge on? If so, donate them to the museum.

One of them might be the famous Lincoln City dildo. The museum would surely want that.

Wait until your local police station has a knife amnesty (or similar) and drop it in their box.
