‘No dickheads’ was a Michael Appleton era policy.

As far as I’m aware Jones’ policy on dickheads hasn’t been made public.

My guess is that he would say that he would welcome the right type of dickheads that buy in to what we’re trying to achieve… just in terms of certain things.
While he hasn’t used that expression. He has constantly talked about the person being as important as the player. The standard he demands means we’ll never see a player who isn’t giving 100% for the club.
Who wouldn’te say that? Do people really believe when managers say this sort of stuff that it’s an amazingly unique perspective on player recruitment? Even “no dickheads” was just a slightly funny way of saying the exact same thing.

HARVEY KNIBBS AGENT…I reckon this transfer back and forth is all down to Harvey’s agent, just look at him he looks alright wheeler dealer ! I bet he’s just greedy and asking for  more money because he’s seen how much money we’ve been spending so far compared to other clubs in the transfer market.
Bet he owns a Hawaiian shirt or two
Could we not offer him one from the club shop?
Yes surely that would have sweetened the deal for him - I bet he’s got a few Hawaiian shirts

I'm not keen on going for Harvey's Austrian cousin.
I heard he's a pussy despite being the Cat's whiskers last season in the box.

If it was failed medical, I think they would have said that.. I think something else to it.. sure it will come out of the wash sooner or later.. didn’t someone say there was a lot of activity at SL yesterday?

They defo wouldn't. Not fair at all on the player.

They defo wouldn't. Not fair at all on the player. It's our DR and specialists medical OPINION. It's not black and white. It's likely muscular, he isn't missing a leg.

    As far as we know....
  • I think it was 60/40 after the medical and we just could not warrant bringing him in at this time with a doubt over his knee injury .. I say we still
want him but prepared to see how he performs over the coming months and make a new move in January ???

Am a bit gutted as I really rate Knibbs, but it very much sounds like our decision which is positive.
We have to assume that given we seem to have been chasing this for a while that if it was indeed us who called it off that would not have been done lightly or on a whim - there must be a pretty compelling reason to complete such a total and sudden U-turn.

Hopefully we have a back up plan but I for one have faith based on other summer activity so far.
Absolutely. I think this decision was made completely on medical advice. Pity all round really.

Shooters it sounded like you had wind that this deal wasn't happening beforehand when others said it was just the announcement being delayed. Was that based on info on the medical side or that other clubs were competing? Or just an educated guess based on general pessimism/experience...
I had heard that when people were saying it was 100% done and he was our player just waiting on an announcement that he actually wasn’t and not even that close. That followed hearing he was a top target all summer.  I heard that the club had sought expert medical advice over fitness concerns and I’m guessing here that when that expert opinion was received that the club pulled out of the deal. Am I 100% certain ? Nope. As always lots of us hear varying bits and pieces sometimes second hand but this fits in this case I think.
Yeah sorry read my message back and tone seemed a bit snippy, wasn't having a go, just trying to get my head around where it's gone wrong in the absence of any concrete evidence - and remembered you were one of the voices who disagreed when things seemed close! Appreciate the insight!

Surely we can get this over the line ,reading being a bit cuntish it seems last minute and we have stood firm, hopefully we can get find some common ground /meet halfway I know it's not my money but sweeten it a little bit more if that's not good enough then yeah fine they can go f themselves..

We have had years of useless managers and owner - not anymore. Whatever the reason this deal broke down, I trust the club and the manager.

All the noise from some of our fans is very odd - would they rather we spend £1.8m on a player who may have potential injury problems or some other problem? Let's support the club and stop the whinging. We don't need to know why the deal is off.

No doubt they will have other targets in mind.
Does this relate to social media, because I can’t see much whinging on here? Just disappointment.
Maybe it is social media, but why the disappointment?

I feel relief this deal did not go through because there will be a reason. Why do we need to be told the reason?

I am glad they changed their minds rather than do a poor signing.

FWIW, Goddenole saying deal fell through due to additional demands from Reading rather than any issue Knibbs end and deal may not be entirely dead
Interesting that he’s saying the deals not dead, by the sounds of @Goddenole comments there’s a chance it could still go ahead and it’s reading who’s moving the goal posts and nothing to do with a medical or terms.

I think the medical outcome should be very much between the club and the player. Certainly the selling club would be in the loop but that’s it. Would you want your medical conditions bandied about for all and sundry to pick apart. It’s confidential and should remain that way.

I gave the example of Alfie Doughty when both clubs, Charlton and Stoke knew he had an operation for his badly damaged hamstring in October and was unlikely to be fit before the end of the season but that didn't stop Stoke paying money for him in January. Also considering Alfie's game was all about pace they did take a gamble. As Doughty only had 6 months left of his contract and was interested in the move then an agreement was met.

If it's not anything to do with a failed medical, if I was Knibbs agent I would advise him that we should let the football world know so it doesn't deter future interest.

I understand that in the ideal world it should be confidential but in the football world it's all about gossip as we found with Chuks and the truth gets twisted like ligaments.

Barry Silkman ex Man City if I'm not mistook, one of Malcolm Alisons odd signings, a cultured attacking midfielder who failed to live up to his hype. oh and ex Palace.
  • I'm struggling to believe that a guy who's played 194 games in the last 4 seasons failed a medical.

Is it possible that Reading agreed a fee of 1.8m, then saw how much we paid for Kelman and thought 'hang on a minute, Knibbs might be worth a bit more than we've agreed' and asked for more money?

Also, if he failed a medical why would there be "back and forth" discussions with Reading ? Yes, you might want to alter the fee but seems like a big gamble to take. What, we don't care if he can't play many games if we only pay £1m for him instead of £1.8.

Not insight really. Just what was mentioned to me and I posted it without knowing its veracity.
