Jamaica’s prowess in broader athletic terms is quite astonishing. As far as football is concerned it’s probably a bit of an undiscovered goldmine in terms of Jamaican football league talent. Great forward thinking by the club for exploring the potential.
I had a chat with Charlie about this last season.  Just before we signed up with Mount Pleasant.
It’s fascinating really.  When the slave trade all started apparently Jamaica got first refusal on the African slaves so they obviously chose the fittest and strongest.  Since then they have just maintained a gene pool of excellent physical specimens and this leads to the thought process they Jamaica is a potential goldmine.
he had some statics but I can’t recall them.  But it was quite an enlightening and interesting chat really and hopefully explains our current tie-in with all things Jamaican
Who needs schools and education when Charlie can provide bite-sized history, culture and strategy lessons?!

P.S. Might be worth checking the post for an invoice over the upcoming 28 days.
The only lesson here is that you can't take the Eton out of the boy

Amazing to think that Eton was founded by Henry VI in 1440 as a free school for 70 poor boys from the local manor who were bad at Grammar.

Now Eton will cost around 60k over the school year but it opens more doors than a myriad of keys, and gives supreme confidence to the likes of Charlie Methven, Boris Johnson, David Cameron etc*

*For political balance I was going to put a labour prime minister who had gone to Eton but couldn't find one since Ramsey McDonald became the first Labour prime minister.

    Back to the footie peeps🏐

This is horrifying. Our academy strategy is ultimately inspired by slavery and some sort of racial science? He actually implied this?

I guess we'll be looking at Ethiopia for box to box midfielders who can run all day and not get tired based on the mind-boggling VO2 max performances of its runners, and the Netherlands for goalkeepers cos they're the tallest people on the planet.
I was told a different story about Jamaica in that all the problem / trouble / hard to control slaves were dropped off there - whether true or not I don’t know
  • It’s just a theory which explains the phenomenon of Jamaican sporting success. In terms of elite athletes produced per capita it’s quite astonishing. There are plenty of awful historical events which have shaped the world today. No need to be offended on behalf of the Jamaican nation.

    Chat GPT collated stats:

    Jamaica: Athletes Per Million People

    Base Info:
    • Population: ~3 million
    • Main Sport: Sprinting (100m, 200m, 400m, relays), some success in boxing, football, cricket.
    • Timeframe considered: Last 20–25 years (2000–2024)

    Olympic & World Championship Medalists
    • Jamaica has produced 60–70 total Olympic and World Championship medalists in athletics in this period.
    • That’s roughly:
    • 70 medalists ÷ 3 million people = ~23 medalists per million people

    Broader Elite Athlete Estimate

    Now include:
    • Non-medal Olympic finalists & semi-finalists
    • Professional sprinters on the Diamond League circuit
    • NCAA track & field athletes (Jamaica sends dozens to U.S. each year)
    • Commonwealth Games medalists
    • Youth and junior elite champions

    You end up with:
    • Likely 100–120 Jamaican-born athletes competing at a high international level
    • That’s about:
    • 100–120 elite athletes ÷ 3 million = ~33–40 elite athletes per million people

    Comparison by Country:

    Est. Elite Athletes per Million
    Jamaica ~35–40
    USA ~1–2
    UK ~3–5
Kenya ~10–15 (mostly in distance running)
New Zealand ~10–15 (rugby, rowing, others)

  • Can start a new thread and keep this away from the transfer rumours if that is preferable.

Harriet Harman's kids went to my grammar school in Orpington, as did Hilary Benn's grandchildren. Socialism is always great for everybody else's children.

oh fucking hell, here they come.......

Don't panic, I know you're* a very sensitive guy when tangents arrive.

I feel like talking about men's and women's football in the same sentence but you will become giddy so I won't 😂

*Edited from your 🤦🏻‍♂️before I get told off by Chizz !

Yeah absolutely distraught, almost uncontrollable tbh.
  • Here we go again. The rumours thread has gone to shit.
  • Thread is starting to read like Akers' Twitter posts..... Let's stick to football (transfer rumours).
  • Alfie May should have sent his kids to Eton.

Alfie with his new money can afford too now.

That qualifies as a football rumour 👏🏼
  • Come on let's get that RWB done before nitram comes on to complain again 🧐

I just gave a history lesson while fuck all was happening.

Same story of Jamaica's history that I was taught. Also the highest per capita of murders in the world in two of the last three published figures
