Phil Parkinson says every deal had to go via 18 directors at Charlton...

Did we ever have that many ?

Ah, those were the days when 18 directors mean a good night out - do courage still make it?
  • Bless him.  He's been quite polite considering the shit he was put through.

Have you noticed how the photo makes him look all sort of northern and rugged?

I can see him with pigeons and a flat cap.

Haven't seen it for a long time but don't go looking for it as it is far too sweet for my taste.

We did have loads before Murray bought them out, not sure it was as high as 18 though, perhaps 12-16.

Yes we did have around 18 directors but that is slightly misleading as there were only 5 or 6 non-executive directors on the PLC board by Parky's time.

The others were on the Football Club board. I have it from a very good source that the FC board weren't asked their opinions about buying players!

Those agreeing purchases or loans (not picking the actual players) were on the PLC board and in effect it was just Murray, Whitehand and Chappell.

Far from ideal but If I'd put £Ms in to the Club I would like a say in those sorts of things.

Dave White was right when he told me that Parky exaggerates stuff whilst talking to the media.
  • think some of the deals were signed after 18 pints of directors had been consumed

There really is no story here. Its just a throw away line. Even if there were 18 people in the decision making loop (which as Henry said, wasn't the reality), Parky would not have needed to lobby them all to get a player signed. He is just putting a spin on the fact that at Bradford, he has two joint chairmen with whom to deal.
  • I can't believe that the signing of Simon Francis or Alan Mccormack had to go through 18 directors.

It didnt actually have to go through anyone in any decision making way.. He was given a budget to spend. It only went through the PLC board at all if he wanted to go outside of that remit. Evidently.

I think it was their signings that made every other signing have to go through the directors!

    Tiredness maybe
  • "To"  is correct

Maybe it was the capitalised first word that upset him

To be fair Murray stated that this had been a problem after he had taken back full control of the club. 18 may have been an exaggearation but it was aproblem

You have to look at the context, as reported in their Yorkshire News Shopper or whatever it's called.

Parky is evidently responding to a specific question at a Press conference or whatever - and underplaying the fact that 2 joint Chairmen might be difficult to get approval for his purchases.
