The Small Faces came up with this unique round package, with artwork that mimicked the, in those days, common tobacco tin1

Sadly an art form just about destroyed by the arrival of the CD and probably completely dead in a few years when there are only downloads available. No scanner and no vinyl here in Phuket but the Roger Dean designed album covers for Yes among others. Oh and Sergeant Pepper.0

So much prog on this thread!
The Lamb by Genesis and Crises by Mike Oldfield are pretty cool

Nevermind by Nirvana has to be up there.
Such a simple idea which has become one of the most well known album covers ever.0 -

That was the one with the pull-out insert, so you could change the faces to the hairstyles on the front cover0 -
Electric ladyland .. hendrix
Lincs, allegedly Hendrix hated that cover; put out by his British record label. Not surprising, as he was way too big an artist to need that kind of exploitative image to sell.Still, it's then shocking impact was well received by many a spotty youth (of which I was one!)0 -

Some of my favourites:
Physical Graffiti & Led Zep III (?) - both by Led Zep & both have slidable inserts so that you can change the covers.
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
We're not going to take it - Twisted Sister
