Player of the Year do's

Not the silly sit down meal you get nowadays, where you're lucky to have a player on your table.

I mean the proper old skool player of the year do's, which would just be one big drink up and a sing song at the end, where the players would get as drunk as fans and mix, laugh and dance as freely. When it wasn't a them and us scenario. If ever there is a good example of how the players and supporters and now so clearly different, its shown in the change in these do's.

Went to some great ones over the years; Meridian, Waterfront, Trafalgar, Woolwich Uni etc.

Any memories / stories ?

I remember the one at the Waterfront, Curbs walked over to me and my mates, said he recognised us froma few of the away games, and wanted to thank us for our support. Then went on to ask our views about the side, then listened patiently for five mins while we went through who we thought was sh*t,

Had an excellent night once in the traf tavern, about 95 96 i would say, but it was brilliant! All at the end singing anti millwall to the tune of wonderwall (your shit millwall) and terrorising poor leaburn and johnnie robinson trying to steal my mates chain chain! quality night quality

There were about 3 seperate fights all in the space of about 5 minutes near the end.

When I first pasted his pic on the DVD cover, his eyes were looking to the left - notice how gradually they are leering towards the lady's breasts!

My favourite was the one in 96 at the Trafalgar. Absoluty out of it by the end of the night having seen us make the plays offs and Millwall going down.

    Need those happy memories today!

That is the most old-school post I've ever read. All the more resonant because my own relationship with sherry ended around the same time.

    Cheers

I was there at the Trafalgar tavern that year. There was a crowd of us and I had two mates from west London over for the day - one Chelsea and the other QPR. They both had a fantastic day (and night) and told me days afterwards that the night had changed their impression of Charlton fans forever. They had always thought we were all trainspotters (not just 80% of us) so were pleasantly surprised. They still give us more credit than I think we are due and never fail to remember that day whenever we catch-up.
