Thank you to the 32 Lifers who managed to get down from Cloud 9 and give their marks

I have got completely fed up with the "official" stats of the Football League, so from this edition of the stats I am correcting their errors where I see them namely in assists, shots on/off target, yellow & red cards, but I don't want to open the flood gates to discussion so my decision will be final - like the ref!!!!

A Lifer asked for a comparison of home and away stats so I shall try and do this every quarter of the season - 1st quarter today.

Do enjoy them and please tell me of any mistakes - in 6 pages there must be some.

  • Thanks Lincs for the Promometer , interesting to see that at the moment we are on a par with Leeds of 2 seasons ago (points wise).

    Good stuff.

Man of the Match on "Average Marks for Players who have started at least 5 League One Games" should be Morro, not Hamer. You have both down.

    Cheers Lancs

  • Thanks cafcrocky87 - knew there would be something, must have seen red at that point

    Excellent stats LL.

I'm sure Stephens took the corner for the 1st goal, so it's his assist not Jackson's ?

Jackson was diving in at the near post if anyone looks again.

  • Paul & CE - yes on checking the OS match report it say Stephens took the corner to Kermo's head and goal - so I'll change my copy of the stats - see just can't trust the officials!
  • Stephens def took the corner he was right in front of me.
  • If nothing else, you can see he takes it with his right foot.

Indeed. If our valley manager man is reading this, make sure you get it right for stephens with the assist not jacko!!

Only one goal conceded from open play in the first half, good strong starts to games, long may it continue.

  • Fascinating that every single player has a better average mark away than at home.

Do we really play that much better away from the Valley - or is it that having invested so much time and money to follow the team around the country, the  most loyal cohort among our fans is admirably more inclined to be generous in their appraisal of the players' efforts ?

But as long as we keep on winning, who really cares!

I like the fact that whichever '15 minute' section of the game you look at, we are likely to score ... strong stats
  • Can no longer see these on my phone - what has changed?

Good point. And it's equally interesting to see how many of the goals conceded follow half-time.  Must rack the HT pep-talk up a peg or two!

Didn't get chance to put my marks up this week due to spending the weekend away and work

However the mark given to Waggy for this is ridiculous. He had a pretty decent first half and adds to our defensive solidarity. 2nd half he had a bizarre 5 mins when little went right and his confidence drained.I think he's being marked on this brief spell. It was great management by Powell not to then take him off straight away and brought Green on for Hayes.

Most people agree 7 is good 6 is average.

Waggy scored 6.41 which is better than average. Personally I think that is more than fair.

Great stats as ever LL.  I hope you don't mind but I had the urge to print this little feel-good graph.

That is pretty impressive -well done - very clear.
  • Like it, well done Stig, perhaps you could repeat this graph on a regular basis, say once a month?

so to put this in to context of what we need to do. The max for second place is 92 points so thats a good taregt to almost guarantee promotion. We have 27 from 11 leaving 65 points needed from 35 games. So a record of 19 wins, 8 draws and 8 defeats should guarantee promotion. or 18-11-6 or various other combinations.

That should be seriously do-able unless we have a real bad run (which leeds did from a similar position 2 years ago and only just scraped through)
