I'm sure many of you are already aware of this fantastic online resource, but I've just been browsing through the Pathe News online archive and there is some fantastic bits of news-reel involving the mighty Addicks. Sadly it seems, in time honoured fashion, we lost nearly everytime the cameras were on us but there's still some fascinating little bits of nostalgia in there. Can any of our older lifers remember attending this game?

Brilliant stuff. I remember the pre-match entertainment but must admit I don't remember the 2-2 draw with Portsmouth.

Great find, am aware of the site but I just don't think of using it. Love the old style voice, reminds me of the sketches by Paul Whitehouse and Harry Enfield sketches.0

First game was in late 57. I missed the Huddersfield 7-6 game by a month or two....damn it.

Just watched some of the bolton game on this, it seems a bit of a myth that somehow the 'modern game is so much quicker' there is an incredible amount of pace and energy, the goalies boot the ball upfield so quickly. The guys all perched on top of the church spire is quite an image !0

Yep I remember it, was there with me old man and grandad....I was about 14 at the time.....thanks for bringing back memories.....I was looking for my old man standing on the East Stand in the video, but couldnt see him, yet he always stood in the same place....oh well never mind.

Does anyone know why we're wearing our away kit at home to arsenal in the FA Cup match?
I'm not certain - but I seem to remember back in the day when it was known as a second kit rather than 'away kit', some competition rules stated that it was the home team that had to change if there was a clash (presumably to avoid the away team kit man bringing 22 shirts on the bus just in case the referee complained...)0 -
My first ever game aged ten. Taken by my brother an Arsenal supporter. I remember being pushed through the crowd on the east terrace down to the front, otherwise I wouldn't have seen a thing!0

I think they do this in rugby. I was told it was so that home fans get to see the away team in their famous colours - especially when a big team comes visiting. Not sure why they are that interested in the other team though or how many rugby teams are that big to care about. Actually there wasn't an East Stand............it was an enormous open terrace.Maybe you meant West Stand?

The original stand where the West is today, was known as the Grandstand.

And the Covered End was officially referred to by the club as the North Stand.
The big terrace was called the East Terrace.
