I am still in shock that the mighty CAFC are visiting my adopted home town. Halifax is a great place and would be an enjoyable visit.

HA - Would you recommend exiting  the M62 at Junction 24 or 26 & have you any parking tips  for a quick getaway? Thanks mate.

would you recommend the trains via manchester or leeds?

I have family who live in the Halifax area (my nephew has just joined this site) and whenever my mum goes up to visit by train she always goes via Leeds.

My nephew has also said that this year they are running trains straight into Halifax which is what we have just booked her on for this Christmas so might be worth a look.

Thing that always pops into my mind about halifax is a kid at school (we were 16 at the time) getting stabbed by a gang of 11 year olds when he went up there for a night game with Millwall on the train.. He bunked off school and went on his own and was at the back of the bunch walking to the station with a police escort and sneaked into a newsagents. When he came out he was surrounded by a gang of young kids who had them little round mini razor blade type cutter things that were all the rage back then (mid / late 80's). He wasn't seriously hurt but came into school the next day and his arms were a mass of shallow slash marks.

We ripped the piss out of him obviously not only for being Millwall but why you'd want to go to halifax and on your own mid week and then to get attacked by small kids just topped it off nicely. Bizzarre character lived in Walworth and went to Crown Woods.

Junction 24 most direct for ground you come off and follow signs for Halifax and Shay is about 4 miles on your right-hand side, just after running track and bus depot and just before you reach swimming pool - if you hit town centre you have passed it - it's about 5mins walk tops so any street parking fine - should all be free on a Sunday - I'll be getting bus down live only 4 miles from ground ;-)  Halifax is full of great pubs so plenty of place to drink/eat in town centre or en-route to ground

it's better quality than the Thames mate, I drink it all the time ;-)

Here I am Unc!  Yeah I booked Grand Central for Christmas but cos of times and days don't appear to be running direct on Sunday so just get cheapest train to Leeds then they run every 20mins on a Sunday to Halifax - 5 mins walk from station...
