His loan period is up on Januay 3rd, right in the middle of an important series of games against promotion rivals and the FA Cup 3rd round. I suspect that following the sacking of Phil Brown and the installation of a brand new PNE regime, Russell's loan period will not be renewed, especially as he has been such a success, as PNE should/would see it, for a promotion rival of PNE's. If the rumours that Hughes is unsettled and wants a move away and IF Jackson and Stevens are both still either unfit or at best lack match fitness, it seems that Chris Powell will need to reinforce the midfield either through a loanee or a permanent signing. The question is who, and the answer is obviously restricted by suitability, form and availability. Do any of you transfer watchdogs have any idea who's about, in form, the right calibre and available ? ... Ryan Harley anyone ?

Ryan Harley would be an amazing signing but isn't he playing regularly for Brighton atm?
  • Why is Hughes not happy , can only be because he ain't playing

PNE haven't got any money, one of the reasons Russell is with us is because PNE needed him off the wage bill.

If the rumours that Hughes is unsettled and wants a move away
Where is this rumour?  He spoke with CP about being dropped from the team, but that is a world away from wanting a move.

Bloody hell, are we still doing this 'we're top of the league but everyone we signed 5 months ago is unhappy and wants out' thing? I thought we'd got past that guys

    you reckon ?
  • I reckon we could keep him if we wanted to, which we may well be. I'm not sure what I think of Russell though, heard very conflicting reports though I was a fan of Hughes to be honest.

I'm not just singling you out for this Lincs. Let's not forget that Dale Stephens is off because he's unhappy about being dropped during his ankle surgery, Morro's off because Neil Lennon was at one of our matches and they sort of look a bit similar, Evina is off on loan to Orient because we're re-signed the Legend of Kelly Youga, BWP is away due to his issues with exiting the pitch faster than the others, Waggy's off as he's spent marginally more time on the bench than usual, Alonso's been released back into the wild only he hasn't actually, and now Hughes, a 34 year old utility player, is furious at being used like a 34 year old utility player and not some kind of Jesus/Madarona hybrid. Danny Hollands is probably unhappy at being only people's second favourite player with a European country in his name and is no doubt pushing for a January move to Helsingborg.

Seems people are more willing than usual to believe the rumours that players are storming out of the club minutes after joining like they're all supercharged Tevezes and I'm not quite sure why. Probably because we're doing well
  • Good post GM.

In terms of  quality cover - Pritchard and Alonso.
  • PNE haven't got any money, one of the reasons Russell is with us is because PNE needed him off the wage bill.
but now they have got Risdale money
I very much doubt Risdale is spending any of his own money, I'd imagine just in charge of someone else's and taking a salary.

OK, point taken, the thing is, the post is primarily about what potentially will happen if Russell goes and we are left with a shortage in midfield.

You must be on a wind up if you think Risdale is going to be putting his own money into PNE.  He could have bought Plymouth if he was that interested in investing in a club.  PNE are owned by Hemmings who has significantly more funds available to him than Risdale and who is (depending on whose figures you believe) coughing up between 500-750k a month just to keep them going.

As for Hughes being unhappy like any professional footballer he should be if he is not playing.  He like Hayes has put in a shift and for the most part performed well.  His manager however appears to prefer both his central midfield players to provide an attacking threat. (otherwise he would have probably made a greater effort to keep Semedo).

Hughes is 34 on a 2 yr contract and making precisely the contribution to the club he was brought in to do.

  • Darel Russell will be staying.
Not permanently I hope. Good player that he is, I'd hope CP might be looking at young hungry players.
  • Why would anyone with money appoint Risdale? Do you know his track record?

Can't disagree with any of that GM but if you keep putting around rumours like Morrison looks like Lennon, your couldn't be surprised if he did want away.

Spending the owners money, the same owner as before, there will still be no money, I imagine Risdale is there to help sell the club.

Is Pritchard not better defensively and in attack than either Hughes or Russell? At least he seems to be whenever I have seen him play.

I think we will sign a midfielder in January regardless of whether Russell stays or not and it will be our main and possibly only signing. I expect Gleeson from MKD to arrive.
  • Al these 'rumours' of Charlton players leaving can only mean one thing .... Bexley Dan .... In you go son! ;-0
  • I thought Russell done a good job against Huddersfield (until half time), really solidified the midfield against an attack minded team, and were able to nick a couple of goals - however against the likes of Walsall and Oldham who are happy for a point, I think Hughes is better option just to sit and allow the full backs and rest of midfield to attack more, didn't go to walsall but against Oldham Wiggy and Solly didn't get forward enough imo. Hopefully SCP can work this out, have faith

Ironic then that the games we played with Hughes in midfield we scored 22 goals in 7 games (and conceded only 3), by far our best attacking spell of the season. Not saying that Hughes was solely responsible for that, there are of course many other factors. But surely not pure coincidence either.
