Andrew Strauss began England's attempt to reinforce their No. 1 Test ranking by winning the toss and choosing to bat in front of sparsely populated stands in Dubai.

Lunch - 52-5

Nice.

Not a great start. I was listening to TMS on the way to work. Apparently the Pakistani fans hate Misbah because he's safe and successfull, and they would prefer to return to the clown cricket of earlier years because its more "entertaining" and thy want to win in style, though they weren't actually winning.

    Are Pakistan actually West Ham?

    and is Curbs Misbah-Ul-Haq?

Pakistan have been in good form recently, and we aren't usually all that in Asia. I thnk England expect to win, but not batting like that. I wonder if Panesar should have played?

242/5, Anderson striking with the new ball. A couple more wickets, and England are still in this.
  • 288-7 Close of Day 2.
  • We need to bat well; it's not all over yet

So England need to mop up the tail tomorrow and then bat long and/or big to give Pakistan anything over 300 to chase.
