Anyone else catch this? Amazing documentary. Say what you will about Gypsies but this documentary was brutally brilliant. Really eye opening and beautifully shot and made film, contrasting with the brutal subject matter.

Go and watch it on 4od if you didn't watch it.

One of the best bit of television I have watched in a long time, brutal but honest, and in some ways admirable in the emotional strength they have within their family communities. Unbelievable to see the mum's nonchalantly watching their kids knocking bits out of each other for over 35mins...nothing on the box tonight, love?!... I know, lets get the neighbours around and get our Micky and Danny to beat the crap out of each other while we watch...I haven't seen a good punch up in...hours :) it just wouldn't happen in our nice little boxes would it!!

I thought it was a brilliant insight into their world and we should not be so quick to negatively judge other communities for how they choose to live their lives, simply but in harmony...most of the time! Plus...see the wheels they had!!!!

the youngsters boxing the shit out of each other without headgear is nothing short of child abuse whatever 'community' you live in.

2 brainwashed 8 year old kids beating each other while their parents watch. what is that all about?

I thought to myself this is so similar to snatch its unreal.

Like how they all do boxing training from the age of what 3 maybe 4 but a 9 year old can barely read and his da can barely speak, except the odd profanity.

So we saw 2 rabbits, one deer, two cockerels and very nearly a gypsy killed in one program.

    Interesting stuff.

All very romantic notions, but it's a step back in evolutionary terms isn't it?
It would be 'inspiring' and 'insightful' to live in a cave but that don't mean it's better!
It's cruel to let children who don't know any better to merrily hurt each other, surely?
I see that as them shirking a rather large lump of their responsibility to teach them stuff- "little paddy don't need to learn to read or write when he can punch things."
  • So to summarise we saw examples of child abuse, child neglect, animal cruelty, illegal hunting, illegal boxing, extreme levels of violence (drunken and otherwise), threatening behaviour, underage drinking, driving without a seatbelt, driving without due care and attention, littering, profanity, drunk and disorderly behaviour, illegal use of firearms in a public place and threats to kill. Did I miss anything?

Still mustn't be too quick to judge.

Good summary Bournmouth Addick. My dad always warned me about messing with Gypsys/Pikeys whatever you want to call them and after watching this programme i really understand why. Scary!

Those that think its just like my big fat gypsy wedding and other things completely didn't get it. Yes, there were a lot of illegal activities but I found it fascinating how they create and live in a bubble. It's like the mafia or something, living their lives within their own rules. The cinematography was amazing as well - miles better than you'd see in any crappy tv programme.

Watch it as if it was a fiction film, its one of the few documentaries I've seen that i've actually thought "wait... this is actually real?". The only other documentary I can't think similairly to is Senna - which was a brilliant documentary.

Also, gotta love the casual racism on this thread... wouldn't ever say the same thing about black or brown people would you?

I haven't seen any casual racism on this thread, but just a realistic assessment of a scumbag community.

Usually ends in tears when the loveable gypsies' world touches upon ours.

Kentaddick, Tinker gypsys are scum because of what they do. Its got nothing to do with racism.

'Casual racism'? They're s always one isn't there! How is it racism calling them scum, from what I read they were being called scum because of the way they behave and not because of their ancestry.

Always wondered what's actually meant by "casual" racism? Attending an NF march dressed like this for instance?....

  • I don't think it's the childrens fault what so ever you can see that they are bred to fight, and if they don't well their old mans gonna beat the shit out of em.

Let their community stick to their ways aslong as they don't affect us.

"I want my children to be brought up to respect the land and other people".

Presumably by dumping your shit wherever you want and kicking the shit out of anyone that objects to it then.......................
