    Good read, shame that everytime he is interviewed by a paper other than a local one they always ask him and point out he is one of the only black managers in the game

    Whenever I hear or read anything about CP or see how he is on matchday I'm amazed any of us thought that his weakness may be his 'nice demeanour' or 'timidness' in confronting issues - anything but IMHO.

    This just reinforces my love for Chris Powell even more. Not just his outlook on racism, but his words about the England manager and the importance of looking at big picture and long term planning. It's very reassuring to hear our manager to speak about these things, and it's clear he and the owners have a long term vision for Charlton.

    It's nice to see that we are at last getting some media coverage. How much of this is down to Chris Powell's complexion is open to debate. Any football fan who doesn't know that Powell and Hughton are the only two 'black managers' in the League must have spent the past few years incommunicado on a desert island. Mihir Bose, a former BBC Sports Editor would you believe, is well known for not just stating the bleedin obvious but for attempting to ram the same down the throat.

    On the face of it 2 out of 92 managers seems a low figure. But 'Black British' people (excluding mixed-race) make up 2% of the UK population, so is it really such a concerning number?
    Please point out if i'm missing something here.

    It is not represensative of the football population. Just had a quick look on the net and 25% of footballers are of ethnic minority.

    Should we only compare it to the percentage of black footballers though?
    If i'm being honest, other than the guy who is always wearing the headphones, i rarely see a black person at Charlton.
    I know everyone will say that more black people might come if theres more black managers/players etc, but even with CP as the boss i don't think its suddenly mean't more black people are coming to charlton.

    You do see quite a few in the West Stand but I'm guessing that most of them are friends and relatives of the players.

    They do, it's just that we are more likely to notice the CP articles as they are linked and commented on here.

    Stick Chris Hughton black manager into google and see how many recent articles there are.

    Our Chris has already said he wishes it wasn't the main talking point in his interviews but racism in football, John Terry, England and Man U v Liverpool are all bigger news in the eyes of the Evening Sub-Standard than how a non-premiership London team such as Charlton are doing.

    Lets hope that next season he is not referred to as a black manager but as League One winning manager.

    I do hope to see some substantial interviews and articles concerning Sir Chris that do not mention race. What was highlighted was despite what other fans and managers think, we haven't spent that much money. That says a lot about what a great job Sr Chris has done and is one he doesn't get the credit he deserves for as it is assumes that he has bought success.

    The number of black managers is too low, as a percentage of former black players, though you could probably also argue that English managers are too low as a percentage of PL managers also.

    The fact that both SCP and Hughton are both currently very successful (and respected individuals) helps the cause, when you consider the pig's ear John Barnes made at Tranmere for example.

    there has been a massive focus about the lack of black managers in the league over the years, yet there are twice as many match officials as managers at every league match. why is this never highlighted? are the FA/football league looking at why 25% of pro players are from ethnic minority yet ?% officials are.
