Wiggins at right back

Sorry, but did it really take CP 80 minutes to realise this wasn't working? He recognised that Green and Pritchard needed to swap at half time, fair enough, but surely subbing Evina for Cort was even more urgent? Every time Wiggy got the ball at RB our play stalled. The balance was so obviously wrong, but we just stubbornly persevered.

Very Curbs like in terms of stubbornness that his way is the right way and to be fair it has been for the majority of the season.

Felt for Wiggins tonight, he's been exceptional all season really didnt work, I mean at times it works with wingers but not full backs

Why didn't we play Hughes at right back ? Very strange. In a way I actually think it was a decent performance by Wiggins considering how out of position he was.

just a thought , but when did Solly get taken ill (from OS he was ill) ? maybe it was very close to kick off ? still dont explain why he didnt change is earlier .

Agreed, but that was really glaringly unbalanced. Put unneeded pressure on the players out of position and him too....

sorry to say it but to me it seemed powell got nearly everything wrong tonight. wiggins should never have started at RB and he should not have taken green or BWP off instead should have been pritch for waggy and kermo for hayes. disappointing but we move on to the next game and lets get a win UTA

Spot on. Solly is unwell, so play Hughes, Morrison or Cousins at Right Back.

Morrow played right back at Stevengae and had a mare , Hughes has played right back at the valley in a cup game and had a mare , tonight showed up weaknesses in squad depth , but maybe that goes for any team at this level , Evina may / may not improve , but on tonights performance i'd be worried going into the Championship with him as back to Wiggins , i think i know what the charlton players mean now when they say they are 'having a Ceddie'

Third time I am going to try to make a point, both previous times have ended with the thread being closed !!!

Square pegs in round holes - never works !!! Green can'r play on the left & is wasted out there, Wiggy can't run down the right with the ball on his left foot as it will get dispossessed - if its on his right it goes out of touch.

cp has some work to do by Saturday. It is churlish to boo when we are 7 points clear but something is wrong & if it is not sorted soon we could end up being caught !!!!!!

Powell had words with a female supporter who was sat in the West Stand at the end of the game. Unsure what was said, but he was not happy.

Agree, Golfie. If you don't mind, I'll say it again:

You should play to your strengths. Wiggins at left back is a great strength, so why neutralize it on the right?

Exactly, dreadful decision to not only pick him there but to wait 82 minutes to change something that was obviously a poor decision in the first place

It was about an hour before kick off that Solly dropped out

We were told as we left the ground that he'd had a migraine. Them buggers can set in really fast.

I don't think he was THAT bad, i would have started Hughes RB and left Wiggins LB though tbh.

I wonder whether Hughes was actually at the ground - do all squad players attend all home games? My frustration with SCP is that he is slow to recognise when things aren't working. After 25 mins, I'd have been tempted to put Pritch at RB, Wiggy LB and Evina LM. Yes, a gamble, but so was the original formation, and that gamble had failed.

I've little respect for Gary Megson, but in the home game against us he changed their shape midway through the 1st half, recognising that something wasn't right. You know the rest. Chrissy seems, like Curbs, to believe that an early switch or sub is a sign of weakness.

    Anyway, hopefully Chris back soon
  • Was it too late and after he had handed in the team sheet? Hughes not even on bench and he had a nightmare at RB in the cup. He couldn't put Evina there as unfair on the lad. But very difficult for Wiggy as left footer.

I can understand the logic that if you have to play someone out of position then you pick the better player as he's more likely to cope. But sometimes you need to recognise that it's not working out and try something else instead.

To be fair, CP has played Morro at RB once this season (our first league defeat) and Hughes (our worst performance of the season) so he may have been keen to find another solution.

And I guess he's not sure Cousins is ready yet.

Hopefully Solly will be OK for sat, because he obviously hasn't found a solution to RB cover. Fingers crossed JJ is back too.

aghhhh, hate migraines with a passion, if Solly gets them anything like i get them/used to get them (touchwood) then it would leave him unable to see clearly, let alone think straight.
  • Are the first cracks begining to appear within CPs advisors decisions are becoming increasingly a mystery to us.
Why are we playing forwards who dont score " He works hard" is simply not good enough.
We need a striker who can convert chances or look out boys here come Sheff Unt & MK Dons.

Obviously a mistake playing Wiggy at right back because it effectively meant we lost 2 players - Solly and Wiggy. However i dont agree with Morrison being moved. Our main strength this season has been built around Morrow and Taylor partnersip.
