Same person who tipped me the wink re: Capello going has just told me he has heard Benjani is signing for us on loan with a view to a perm free transfer in the summer.

he is junk, although we'd be getting a slighty upgraded version of kakpo from the version that leon clarke has given us

    crap touch

Benjani's built like a tank. Would be an interesting transfer!
  • definitely would be an interesting signing and will definitely be better to have on the bench than clarke could be a good signing
  • Wouldn't mind him on loan until the end of the season, and then decide at the end of the loan if it's worth giving him a deal.

  • Unlikely IMHO but on a deal until the season end would give us an opportunity to have a look ? Seems we like all bases covered.

I think he had a Mcdonalds flurry...

Whats with all the Clarke hating?Sure he should have tucked away a goal when he started, and he's not the fastest player we have ever had, but he's got a mean shot on him, can hold the ball up well and is strong too

    Not at 34, no way
  • Benjani up front?

We ain't gonna get Jordan Rhodes, but agreed. Powell is building a squad for the future not sure what the value in signing an old-timer like him is.
  • Im not sure why we would need him now we are so close to promotion and already have 4/5 strikers at the club who can do the job but if CP wants to take a better look at him, i will trust his judgement.

My first reaction is please no!, my second is in SCP we trust. IF it is true and IF he does come in, then I'm sure that Powell will work his patented magic and have the guy playing a blinder. That said, I'm neither optimistic nor expectant of the loan ever happening

Thanks but no thanks. Have had enough mercenary footballers to last me a life time. Powell will get the right players for the right job and BM ain't one of 'em.
  • No thank you. Would prefer sticking chris solly upfront than this carthorse. Past its sell by date. How much will jordan rhodes be worth in the summer if huddersfield don't go up? Would be a dream signing that

Rhodes would cost at least 4mil...What a statement that would be from our owners! we can dream cant we?

Would provide good experience to our young big strikers, we have a couple of them dont we?

this is where Powelly will need to try and follow up his excellent first full season with something equally as strong... He will need to try and find hungry characters, people who feel they can deliver at the top level.. it will be a big challenge next year and it will be a very interesting beginning to the season I think this crop of players with 4 or 5 more will be very focused and motivated to prove that they can do it at Championship level.. an old has been/almost was washed up and try ing to get a pay check from portsmouth smacks more of a Pardew Singing than powell..

was just about to say the same thing, that it completely depends on how hungry he is. I'm suprised people are doubting his quality, if his attitude and effort are there then he is still class for a league 1 team. But, does he have the required effort/attitude? I dont think he does, but if powell has met him and Benjani wants to prove himself, then he can still do a very good job IMO. Having said that, we have been linked with Matt Derbyshire and I would much prefer him

He would clearly only come in for the kermo role, if he picked up a knock.

I dont want him, think we have enough strikers - saying that though, i'll trust powell if he think's that we need another experienced head for the final run in.

Can't see the point. We should have enough cover to push over one of the lines with what we have. Best time to take stock of what we need for next year is when that's done and we are in the league that we'll be in next year. Any floating cash now should be saved.
