We can't blame the defeat on them but they were a bit slow- maybe not enough of them - but Colchester were in no hurry and it helps if the ball boys are a little bit eager!

Perhaps the Sun Newspaper can do the Ball Boy rating and Ball Boy man of the Match ..............

And after the game we can have text vote for our favourite Ball Boy and those that are in the bottom 2 have a ball collecting play off - dramatised by Scofield and co..

So when we lose we got some one to blame ......instead of a 30 yard scorcher and a howler from the Keeper..

Right so the excuse the other night was its a night match so hard to get kids to do it on a school night.

So what was the excuse yesterday? I actually started this thread as a bit of a joke to see what reaction it would get but yesterday was pathetic at times. There just aren't enough ball boys out there. I'm sure there are stacks of kids out there that would jump at the chance

The ball boys used to give out sweeties before the match and having reluctantly dispensed a few packets, they would proceed to stuff all of their pockets to bursting point. Perhaps they're missing their sweets and having a sulk. But they were truly dreadful yesterday.

By my reckoning there should be at least twelve out there.

It may seem like a small thing but when we're chasing the game it can add a good five minutes at least I'd say

Ball boy used to be a privalige for those who wanted to do it. A few seasons ago this was scrapped and the youth teams have to do it. Could explain he lack of enthusiasm?

  • I was a ballboy several times when I was younger. It was drawn out of a hat from the Junior Reds members I think

Chris Powell was asked this on Thursday at The Valley. A chap in the audience said that he arranged the ball boys, who come from The Academy. He admitted that they weren't good on Tuesday. He had spoken to Powell about it (as he wasn't best pleased) and that the issue would not reoccur.

Get the guy who trains the ballboys (and girls) who do the lines at Wimbledon. They do it for 2 weeks (not just 90 minutes) and don't nod off between rallies.

There was a particular moment in the first half where the ball went out near the NW Quad and the ballboy nearest totally ignored the ball and sat staring into space.

They need a kick up the backside.
