Horses may be beautiful .. but why always the long face ?

Not a great day for me despite 2 winners. Mentioned Sir Des Champs on here earlier, but then didnt back him, so that was an error! Still up for the whole festival, just, so hopefully tomorrow will be a big day!

    From the Racing Post:

"Henderson employee 'wins over £1m' on acca
    By Graham Green 7:14PM 15 MAR 2012

A MEMBER of Nicky Henderson's staff who was on Thursday night anxious to remain anonymous is understood to have become a millionaire thanks to an accumulator featuring five of the trainer's six Cheltenham Festival winners.

What is believed to have been a £50 bet at antepost prices was placed with bet365 in November.

The winning horses were Sprinter Sacre (Racing Post Arkle Chase), Simonsig (Neptune Investment Novices' Hurdle), Bobs Worth (RSA Chase), Finian's Rainbow (Queen Mother Champion Chase) and Riverside Theatre (Ryanair Chase).

Bookmakers are normallykeen to trumpet when a client enjoys a massive pay-out but bet365 were unwilling to discuss the details of the win when contacted by the Racing Post.

Spokesman Pat Cooney said: "It was a horrible day for us as bookmakers, we lost on every single race, and while we are pleased for customers who had a good day, it is company policy not to discuss individual accounts."

This is the second major gamble to have been landed at the festival this week with Phil Williams, owner of the Donald McCain-trained Son Of Flicka, reputed to have collected £900,000 when his horse won the Coral Cup on Wednesday."

backed him in his first ever bumper, was under pressure 3 furlongs out but just ran and ran and ran, won by a mile in the end. One of my favourite horses, not had a bet this week yet, might just have a dabble tomorrow

Creosote in the 1.40, he's good over fences.
Aran Sweater in the 2.10 is a good jumper.
Cambridge Boat in the 2.30 is worth a punt.
Dirty Carpet in the 2.45, never been beaten.
Jordan's Kid in the 3.00 is a short Price.
Coroner in the 3.15 is a dead cert......
Don't Insult Me in the 3.35 takes a fence.....

    Help these help. :-)

Right here we go then, the big day! Time to hopefully turn my so far tiny profit into some serious profit!!

    Below are my selections:

    1.30 Grumeti
    2.05 Local Hero
2.40 Boston Bob. (also think Brindisi Breeze is a very good shout, if he had a more well known trainer I am certain odds would be shorter)
3.20 Kauto Star (will probs go Burton Port or Midnight Chase e/w as well)
    4.00 Chapoturgan
    4.40 Open Hearted
5.15 How fitting would it be for Nicky Henderson to end his record breaking festival with a winner in the race named after his father but I can see Ferdy Murphy spoiling that with DE BOITRON. Hope I'm wrong.

    Good luck all!

Lest anyone is tempted by another JP "plunge", if one occurs for Synchronised, just bear in mind that his Lexus win on "good" [time suggests plenty of cut though], which seems to be the basis for Jonjo’s optimism today, was in a time slower than the (admittedly decent) novices ran over the same trip that day (he would have finished 4th in that novice chase on time). Bear in mind too that he was off the bridle a mile from home. It will be a serious test of his unique jumping style this afternoon and I'm not convinced it will stand up to it at the pace at which they'll likely go.
Personally, at best, I see him staying on past tiring horses up the hill maybe for a minor place, as top staying handicappers often do in the Gold Cup, but his only chance of defeating the best of his rivals today is if there are several mishaps.
There you go...that's him nailed on for the prize!
  • 1.30 Balder Succes
    2.05 Citizenship
    2.40 Boston Bob
3.20 Long Run (saver on Kauto for sentiment and as I can't see a winner outside of the top 2)
    4.00 Chapoturgeon
    4.40 Bourne
    5.15 De Boitron

Very difficult today but we will see what happens. The gold cup will be a great spectacle especially if kauto wins but personally the friday is my least favourite day of the festival. The crowds are very big but in my view the racing is not as good as on the first 3 days. 1:30 shadow catcher 2:05 citizenship 2:40 boston bob 3:20 long run 4:00 cloudy lane (although I won't be going anywhere near this race) 4:40 toner d'oudairies 5:15 de boitron. Good luck to all
