Interesting debate. I wouldn't be against it as long as they started in L4 and worked there way up. It would be much like how they have it at the moment really. Big gates at home and they make up 95% of the crowd when they play away whilst every other team plays in front of about 2,000.

Incidentially, I think the orignal post on this thread was a wind up.
  • Rob I thought so too, but the story was carried by the Sunday People in Scotland this morning. Not that that adds much of an indication of legitimacy but it has been put out there...
  • The Celtic to League one was mentioned on The Sunday Supplement on tv this morning. No wind up but how much truth there is in it is anyone's guess.

I know this gets discussed most close seasons and I think this time it might be more credible.

I suspect the likes of Scunthorpe and Yeovil would sell out for a Celtic home match and be able to attract greater TV revenue given the Celts worldwide fan base .It is clubs like us that have ambitions to get back in the Prem that would oppose it along with the big six who within a few years would definately have Celtic challenging them for honours because the Hoops would have access to bigger income through the PL so could attract top players

If it happened I suspect their Old Firm rivals Rangers wouldn't be far behind because a precident would have been set and the R's would be far too big for the non Celtic Scottish league once they have sorted their financial issues out.

I can assure people that I did not post this as a wind up but in response to the Sunday People story which was also carried in the English edition I read .

None of this only allowing one or two Scots teams in. Either merge or leave it as it is.

    Regionalise the third tier.

Southern League 1, Midland League 1 and Northern/Scottish League 1.

British League at Tier 2 and 1.

Merge the two leagues completely and let the best of the scottish teams find their level in a British set up over the years.

Can't say I'd blame Celtic or Rangers (or any other jock team) for wanting to join our league. They've shown that they can't sustain a level of top players when relying mainly on gate money and see teams in England such as Wigan spending millions on players yet lucky to get 18,000 through the turnstiles. Probably feel an injustice along the line somewhere.

Personally, I don't want to see any of them getting in.............................

As we will not be here - who cares! Probably the right level to be excepted in without Clubs claiming unfair, and would probably soon get promoted. However, if they vote to leave the UK I do not see that this will be possible. Any decision should await this outcome.

Big benefit to the majority of English supporters in the lower leagues is that we would probably never have to listen to the boring Scotch reports before hearing how our teams have done. For this alone I am in favour!

So this 'story' comes from a paper that is one up from reporting stories where people say their son was turned into a fish finger by aliens?

Blimey. Is that true? Where was that? I'm worried now.

With so many league and non league clubs almost going out of business why don't they just buy one of those, combine the "back office" and move players between squads either as free transfers or loans during the transfer windows. i.e Darlington Rangers or Portsmouth Celtic.
Once the club they take over reaches the promised land, or even before, move the team to Glasgow. The FA have already allowed the precedent with MK Dons and, as stated previously, many Welsh teams play in England and Berwick Rangers, who are English, play in Scotland.

Most Scottish fans outside of the old firm would be happy to get rid of Celtic and Rangers from their league as there is such an imbalance in resources. Perhaps Glentoran and Linfield could replace them!

IF Celtic did join you'd have to put them right at the bottom of the football pyramid.

Don't let them join there are just to many issues.

Not interested in any Scottish team ever joining an English League, no thanks, Using existing examples of Swansea, Cardiff, Queens Park in the FA Cup or Berwick Rovers make not a jot of difference to my attitude either, dont want any of them regardless of gates, big games yadda yadda, have no feeling for or against any of them but am 100% against the idea

I have to confess that in my youth I was mentally destroyed by the tearing up of the hallowed Wembly turf and the wanton distruction of the goals. Their clubs should never be allowed South. Ever. I do not believe I will ever truly get over it.

I would also add that bagpipes should be classified as offensive weapons and any one found in possesion should be hung and made to listen to replays until they die of boredom.

I mean this in a kind and caring way and have nothing against the Scotch.

I have nothing against anyone who likes to wear skirts and moans about everything and everyone; thinks that they are best placed to decide what is best for them, their neighbours and any children that they know or even don't know; that by simply saying it is not fair means it is a fact - and proves that after taking handouts for years still means that they still have the right to own what ever they deem to belong to them, even if others disagree, and even if individual Islands have voted to stay British they should be ignored, and to prove all this they can have a vote amongst themselves and that will make it all legal and fair and that somehow they will have no responsability to pay anything back for the years of monies paid to them and that it is only right that monies should continue to be paid to them as a right and while they are at it, they should still be able to vote on anything that that the English Parliment wants to do - as obviously they know best anyway.

Just thought I would make that clear in case anyone thought I did not like the scotch.
