Fair Play to the Sheffield clubs

Plenty of banter has been flying about this season, but no real malice on my part.

Have a fair amount of respect for them both keeping the heat on as much as they are. United unbeaten in 7, Wednesday in 9, they are making it a real true scrap to the line.

Brighton got to cruise it last season with no one really putting any pressure on. Not the case this season, and if we manage to retain the top spot come the end, it should really be celebrated, because it has properly had to be earned.

Sheffield is one of the biggest cities in England and it would be expected that at least one of the city's clubs would be in or at least very close to getting promotion to the the top division. Both have top class grounds, get big crowds and yet both have a propensity to gain some success and to then implode for no discernible reason. From the start of the season I have fancied both to get promoted along with us. I still fancy both to come up and also expect that next season one of them will do a Norwich/Southampton. Yorkshire needs a premier division club and has been without one since Hull's recent plummet. I look forward to more Sheffield days out next season.

Funny thing about this division this season, there are 3 sides and 1 player who shouldn't be here, you can't say that every season, there have been some incredibly poor teams get out of here but this season whoever goes up after 46 games will deserve it. All of us could probably finish out of the bottom 6 in the Championship this season.

I think Weds need to go up automatically. Having such a run of results and the likes of us and United grinding out results must be pretty annoying for them. Then another 3 games (at maximum) thrown at you - not ideal.

Trouble is people have been saying that for a month or so now and it's still not cut and dried. As AFKA says credit to the others for keeping the pressure on. At the end of this season someone's going to be saying, "any other season and we'd have been up".
  • Wednesday's biggest problem if they end up in 3rd will be themselves.

Huddersfield are so focussed around Rhodes they are a poor side elsewhere, never rated MK Dons and all of the contenders for 6th have shown fragility.

If Wednesday finish 3rd, which I think they might do almost by default despite breaking the 90 point barrier, which I can see all 3 of us doing, whether they get through the play-offs will come down to mentality and bottle.

Not a given, but more often than not, it's the form team that wins the play-offs.

MK filthy franchise are as likely to get beat by five as the are to win by that amount . I'd rather the fred west 11 go up than those club thieving pricks

Both Wednesday and United must be under immense pressure and our win today made it worst. Second place is going to come down top which one of them breaks, and one of them, and possibly both surely will.

I don't think Huddersfield can genuinely say they have a claim to promotion this year in the end. They sure had a rocket of a start and were unbeaten in however many games but they drop far too many points at home and from winning positions too.

They need to sort out defensive frailties next season.

Us & both Sheffield clubs will be deservedly promoted come the end of May.

    "Fair play to them"?

    Nah!

The play offs are a lottery and any of the teams could win it. If they started next week, Wednesday would win them I think, but form can change very quickly. Brentford look to be that team coming out of nowhere!

    To add to the above:

Brighton were promoted after beating D&R 4-3 in the 41st game of their season in 2010/11 (i.e. today's round of fixtures).

They had 90 points after 41 games and a GD of +45 (2 points and 3 goals better off than us now) but the gap to Southampton (P40, PTS74, GD+37) and Huddersfield (P41, PTS74, GD+24) was 16 points!

The way wednesday are playing, they should win the playoffs on current form, unless someone like Carlisle sneaks it, as neither Huddersfield nor MK are consistent at the moment

think Southampton won 8 of last 9 last year but Brighton finished very strong until they could ease off for the last 5.
A win on Monday would settle our nerves.

Thing is all we can do is win, but Sheff United and yourselves has responded well although you have had a bad spell recently you still have enough in the bank to cover it, it only takes a couple of draws and it all changes for second though, B'mouth nearly snatched a late goal today it's very frustrating but got to say it's been a decent league with decent sides at the top including Huddersfield.

I honestly think Hudders have dropped a major clanger firstly getting rid of Clark and secondly replacing him with Larry Grayson.

Fair play isn't something I would usually associate with Wednesday this season - mind you, we did have two sent off today.

If Wednesday had got rid of Megson earlier and brought in Jones they would probably be closer to us than they are.

We saw, there was a nifty youtuber* who had it uploaded during the game.

  • Agree. Pushing us right to the wire. Will be heartbreaking for the one that finishes third. I think neither really expected to catch us but losing out to their biggest rivals will be hard. Imagine us losing out to Millwall or Palace. Shudder.

TBH the way things are going it will probably be us that does finish in third but as much as it will be gutting especially as it will be United that will pip us, it will just spur us on through the play-offs and if it is the Play-offs so be it.

After seeing Huddersfield today I think we can do it.

Of course, an alternative outcome is that your lots poopers will go and you will totally implode/choke in the play offs.

Or Utd don't win all of their last 5 matches?

So difficult to say. After being in with a genuine shout for autos and losing out it could be very difficult to get psychologically back up for the playoff lottery whereas the team that is just so happy to make the playoffs are very often the winners.

i'd have said that we have cruised it this year, we have been top since september and the 6 point gap that we still maintain is the closest that it's been for about 2 months. weren't we 13 clear? anyway people on here 6 weeks ago were talking of us posting a record points total.

if we do go on to win the league, then every other clubs fans will remember that we walked it this season.

hopefully sheffield united finish as runners up to us.
