Anyone else just watched that? Shocking decision by the lino! right in line with Young, blatantly offside but NOT according to him. I don't really care to be honest but a basic decision goes against the side against a top club

Unbelievable decision. Even without the offside Derry barely touched him and Young threw himself through the air like Superman. I think Utd's tendency to get the decisions plus Derry's reputation is what got that one.0

Dreadful decision. These referees need to think about what they are doing. It would be hard enough for QPR to get anything at Old Trafford, but to have to play the ref as well makes it an almost impossible task.0

Just seen it again and it's an absolutely awful decision. The linesman was well in line and should have flagged Young offside.0

Gary Neville is a super pundit. Always gets it spot on and is never biased towards Man U/against Liverpool/Man City like I thought he might be.0

Soft ref and referring team... If someone else had scissors a man u player like Rooney did the whole team would have surrounded the ref and the culprit would have got at least a yellow .. For Rooney nothing... W*****

Can understand why the referee gave it after havin seen the "referees angle" just now on Sky. With the benefit of slow motion and replays it was the wrong decision but I think the ref was without blame on this occasion. He was conned. Young on the other hand cheated and should be punished retrospectively by the authorities.0

To be fair it was definitely the lino at fault, whereas with the ref you can see why he gave it - agree with ShootersHillGuru there.0

Mark Bosnich who is summerising over here, got it spot on at half time when he said "peoples livelihoods are at stake here". Crap decisions like that can be the difference between staying up or getting relegated. We are well aware of what can happen once you drop out of the Premiership.0

At first look I said 'penalty' .. only after the many replays did I see that it wasn't .. it goes to show what a tough job referring can be .. but to send Derry off was ridiculous and there was no excuse for it whether the penalty decision was correct or not. I hope that QPR can sneak a point out of this.0

Thing is Queensland, I don't think it was a crap decision given what the ref saw. It's players that cheat and con refs like Young did that can have the effect you mention regarding livelihoods.

If that's directed at my comment Clem then yes they of course do but even wrong decisions if made with honesty help make football the great sport it is. It's when a ref gets it wrong through being conned or complete ineptitude that's so difficult to take. In this particular case I think the ref was conned and from his viewpoint I can see why it was given.

Spot on. The saddest part is it isn't even the players who get the worst of it. It's very rare a player won't be able to find another club if they get released. Far harder for a member of the admin staff to get another job and they don't earn half as much0 -

Also use video technology in conjunction with a referral system. Captains are allowed three referrals per game for contencious decisions. A quick look by the video panel, decision relayed back to the refs earpiece within a minute. It's really not difficult and is being adapted in many other sports with great effect.0

I disagree - in this instance it was wrong, but in general it should definitely for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity. Otherwise you may as well always foul anyone about to score - they might miss the penalty.0 -
Not a Shaun Derry fan but you have to say Young has pulled off an amazing dive to earn a penalty and get Shaun sent off. England could lose another forward from the Euros this time to the Olympic diving team as that would have got 9's from all the judges. Also another prime example of ref's being homers at Old Trafford.0

Thing is though most penalties are converted. Occasionally they are missed and the defender gets away with it. That's how it used to be and I think fans and players accepted it and would rather it that way. I pay to see 11 v 11 and am sick of seeing so many games these days turned into a lottery by sendings off. A game with a worldwide audience was basically over after 13 minutes, ruined, QPR had no chance of getting anything out of the game after the sending off.
