All this talk of 1981 and 1986 - and Addickted's transgression at Sealand Road - has brought back so many memories.....

But wouldn't a Jim Tolmie go down a treat today?

  • Was Tolmie on loan ? I still can't imagine how anyone could score an own goal from 30 yards. What a shame there doesn't seem to be any recording of that goal.
  • I'm pretty sure he was on loan (short-term). In an era when loans were far less common than they are today.

    As for the how: My recollection is that the goalie was on the move left to right (right to left as we watched it from the opposite end) and it was just muddy enough that he didn't have time to change direction.
