Was thinking about how many trialists we used to get in reserve games so i thought i'd put together a well know XI of them who didn't end up signing for us for one reason or another.

LB: Ian Harte (Nov 2008)
RM: Tommy Smith (current QPR Player) (2003)
CM: Matt Oakley (Training and behind closed doors games 2006)

I saw Ricardo Fuller play for the reserves around 1999. I believe that he refused a longer contract (2 years?) as he wanted a shorter (1 year?) deal.
This was a ridiculous thing for him to ask as we would have had to pay Tivoli gardens £1M for him. Also, if you're injury prone, there's a big advantage for you in signing a longer term deal.
Probably badly advised by his agent.
  • Think efan ekoku also trialed with us.

Fuller had a serious back problem which we paid to sort out I believe.

He then went back to Jamaica for a couple of years.

Bolanos was quality. He would have been great if we had got the work permit.

i remember reading that we had signed a brazilian on ceefax and was really excited as that was back in the day when even european footballers were exotic to us.

Ian Harte and tommy smith should've signed. Never knew we had Freddy Eastwood on trial, was that when he chose to go to wolves instead and we signed McLeod?

How about the German defender in the summer? He looked good.

Think Eastwood was when we were in the Prem and he was still at Grays.

Has done very little in the last few years, his record above League 1 is poor.

Sam Williams was a strange trial signing. He'd not even scored many for Yeovil.

Ian Harte would have been an incredible signing, amazed we didn't follow that up.

Probably the best taker of free kicks and corners in the entire Football League (yes, including Jackson and Kermorgant).

Saw Bolanos play in the pre season friendly at The Valley that time and he looked really exciting.

As I recall Bolanos was refused a work permit. He is now playing for my local club FC Copenhagen.
