They must have a massive town hall to get all their fans in.

Hahaha. Brilliant. A civic reception for finishing second in league one.

    Classic

It's what all the big clubs do when they get promoted out of the third tier - just ask Arsenal, Man U, Everton, etc

Why is it embarrasing? They will get a big turnout for it. It's much more than 'finishing second'. It is finishing second ahead of your fiercest rivals who they have been neck and neck with all season.

Let em get on with it!

Definitely embarrassing, if not downright antagonistic to half the city, especially if paid for by public funds, including policing costs.

I'm with cafctom. They've had a good season, let them celebrate. It might not be like that mental bus tour when Liverpool won the Champions League but they got promoted so good luck to 'em.

As for the council paying for it, there's no information about what the costs are or who's paying. Anyway, they're only standing on a balcony, so what costs are there - a few security guards and a bottle of shampoo? I'll bet they can easily find a sponsor to cover that.

As for what The Blades think, I'm sure they'll get the same invite should they win the play-offs. If they don't, I'll be the first to say that it stinks. As it stands though, it's just a local council showing some support and pride in one of the city's main sports clubs; I wouldn't expect anything less.

So there will be one if the blades go up via the play offs?

Why not, wait and see, if they both go up, they can have a joint one.

The Blades had one when they went up, we've just won promotion the players will be given a chance to come out and address the fans, whats wrong with that, there was 15 to 20,000 fans that missed out getting a ticket, gives everyone a chance to join in the party.

If United go up they will get the same, are you not having one?

We're not having one, but then again we've had three different 'parties' with winning promotion, winning the title and then the trophy presentation all on three separate games.

I would hazard a guess, that the economic benefit of 20,000 in the city centre will outweigh the policing costs of the event.

I reckon you're right. If they've thought it through, it's also an opportunity for council and club to do so valuable community work. For example getting underprivileged kids to meet the players.

You have a large corner by Barclays by the civic centre i would hazard a guess only a few thousand would actually be able to see you lift the cup make a speech
