where's my buttons gone?

where have the buttons gone from above my comments box?
the ones that underline, bold, insert link etc.
being a 'puter know-nothing, have i unticked something?

    they'll disappear if your 'format comments as' is clicked in Text. Revert it back to BBCode and the next time you post they should come back.

    done that yet it has reverted back to text again
