Great story serialised in the Sun today about a bust up between Marcus Bent and Paul Devlin. They had had words on the pitch and it had carried on into the dressing room. Marcus then learns down and puts his face right in little Devlin's.

Warnock thought 'shouldn't of done that my old son', and Devlin learnt back and nutted him, smashing his nose and blood everywhere. As Warnock says 'it was brilliant' !!!

Typical. Laid back tall person has to suffer unprovoked attack from short arse with Napoleon complex. The country is going to the dogs. I'm going to emigrate.
  • I think it's brilliant as, as Off It so succinctly put it, Marcus Bent's a c***.

    Going to emigrate, Henry?

    Looking for Cory Gibbs? ;-)

I can't believe players in Marcus Bents situation aren't out there doing high profile charity work. Whilst claiming all those wages and delivering sweet FA you would think they would try and address associated image problems. It proves these agents are only about pocketing their commission.

He's going to be our secret weapon. That's why Pards isn't letting anyone see him. ; - )

go nose to nose with someone and expect the worst, if you want to give it large lay one on, if not keep your distance.
  • [cite]Posted By: Gump[/cite]I find this campaign against Marcus to be very disturbing.Lets see how he gets on this coming season and then slag him off if needs be.

Gump, I take your point but it's not like he's a new player who we haven't had a look at yet. The guy's attitude stinks, I've rarely felt as ashamed of a Charlton player as I was of him in the run in last season. If he was performing on the pitch then he could spend all night every night working his way through pulling the whole page 3 calendar as far as I'm concerned.......but he wasn't (performing that is, he nailed the page 3 challenge). And not only was he not performing, he wasn't even trying (the night he literally ran off down the tunnel after getting 'injured' without even waiting to receive treatment by the side of the pitch was breaking point for me. He was photgraphed stumbling out of China White's with Danielle Lloyd on his arm later that night). He's basically mugging the club when he picks up his pay cheque every week.

That said, much as I'd love to see the back of him, he's still a Charlton player and maybe we should cut him some slack, it does seem to have become a bit of a campaign. I've just resolved to try and bite my lip..............at least until next time I see him give up running after the ball, turn round and skulk back, head down to the half way line, moaning all the way. So that's until about next time he plays then......

Gump, its a fair point and i have been waiting all summer for someone to make it. I thought it would of happened before now to be honest.

Lets get one thing straight, i don't think there is one person out there who wants Marcus to be anything other than a success for us, because that would be to the benefit of all of us.

Ignore the fact that he hasn't performed to the level we hoped or needed since he signed, or that he has so far been poor value for the fee and wages that have been spent on him. There are others that fit into that category as well who don't get half the stick Marcus does.

The main problem with Marcus is not just that he hasn't performed, but he (from our point of you) doesn't seem too bothered about it, and isn't taking his career seriously enough.

He picks up innocuous injuries every other week, he always seems to be arguing with team mates, and seems reluctuant to do the no-thrills stuff for the team, tracking back etc. in summary, he hasn't been a team player.

Couple this with the fact that when we were struggling and needed everyone giving everything they can, he was photographed coming out of nightclubs, not occassionally, but almost daily. Then there were the stories such as the one of him smuggling some bird into the team hotel just before the Blackburn game etc.

Everything he seems to do seems to be the opposite of helping himself. He is still with us now, not because Pardew wants him to be, but because there isn't one other club out there interested enough to take him on.

I hope Marcus has had an absolute miserable summer, a real low point for him. Only then when he realises that he is running out of chances and that it is only him, and him alone, might he turn a corner, realise he has to change his approach to everything, and really give it a go.

And then he will get the praise from others that he probably wants, but so far hasn't deserved. And no one will be happier to eat humble pie than us.

fair point Raz, but spin is exactly that.

It will be, and should be, all about what he does on the pitch, and more importantly how he goes about it.

The onus is on him now

Lisbie was forever being slagged off for his poor scoring record people conveniently forgetting his many assists and the space his pace created for others.

Marcus Bent has scored a princely total of 2 goals and I'm struggling to recall too many assists.

I will defend a trier to the hilt but Bent's lackadaisical, couldn't care less attitude makes him one of the few players I detest seeing in a Charlton shirt.

I'd love to see a miraculous change in his demeanour as with his physical qualities he should have a lot to offer.

i know what you mean about spin, but I think people who earn big money should do more charity work, call it good karma.

Great point about Lisbie, Len. The amount of stick that he was given on the message boards was unbelievable and quite frankly made me ashamed to be a Charlton fan at times.
I asked him if he read this stuff at the POTY night. He said his wife printed it off for him. He thought it was very unfair considering the amount of injuries he had suffered. He also said that he was very well paid and as such had to put up with it.
By his own admission he was not a main striker but a support striker.
I think he would have been great alongside baby Bent, but he never got the opportunity.
He was a really nice guy and I will be so pleased if he does well at Colchester.
BTW also had a good chat with your mate Kish. What a great fella, genuinely gutted that his career with Charlton was over.

Agree that Kev is a nice guy. Always had time to sign autographs and have a chat as he did with my daughter when she saw him when she was out in town with some friends once and spoke to him. She said that he seemed really chuffed that she was a Charlton fan and had spoken to him.

I've never met Kish but what you say epitomises the attitude he always showed on the pitch.

Bent has scored at the Valley though, didn't he get 2 for Ipswich in the New Years Day game when we came back to beat them 3-2?

Events of that day are a bit hazy for me, but he looked great that day. I couldn't believe we didn't go in for him when he left Ipswich for free 1/2 seasons later to Everton and then I thought it was a strange decision to then buy him from Everton.

Someone needs to show him the video of him scoring at the valley and edit it to red rather then blue. Or am I completely wrong?
