    An apprenticeship in rail signalling is the way forward, trust me.

    My old man used to work for Protec.

    Try the JIB website. you can search for companies by county and they would be a good place to start cold calling

    Lol, I don't work for anyone I am one of the owners of Alpha Peerless Fire Systems and CWLC is subbing for us, hence the "enemy" joke. Protec are OK, we have pinched a few service contracts off you ;-0

    You could consider looking at working on the trains themselves (you would be based in a maintenance depot), not sure what apprenticeships they do now though, done mine with British Rail and then spent 4 years working on the Northern Line at Golders Green. As previously advised check out tfl, tubelines or maybe Southern Rail or SE Rail....good luck.

    Cheers for all the help guys, unfortunately with the lighthouse apprenticeship it says you need to already have a Technical Certificate level 3 or equivalent (e.g. City & Guilds), in an Electronic Engineering, which I don't have thanks anyway

    Greenie Junior are you just leaving school or do you have any experience? I had the same problem as you after leaving school not being able to find an apprentiship. I went to NWK college (Gravesend) and started a plumbing course which I didn't finish as I luckily found a job. I've just finished my apprentiship through JTL. The best thing to do I found is bombard the companies with phone calls/letters etc and whilst your waiting get on a course to learn the basics. Good luck.

    I've just left college as i was doing media and it wasn't for me, been given a place on a plumbing course, at nwk gravesend next year, just incase i don't get my apprenticeship, but yeah i ring companies near enough daily and I'm consistently looking online which is why i'm confident in finding one soon as i'm so eager. Cheers

    Funny that, I quit a media course before I went into plumbing as it wasn't for me. NWK Gravesend is a good place to learn. If I hear of any apprentiships going ill post on here.

    Don't know anything about the run back project mate, I worked there from 89-93, took voluntary redundancy when the Company Plan was introduced, but I still keep in touch with some of the lads that I met whilst on the Underground.

    A bit of a journey from Dartford (lived there whilst working at Golders Green), but I put up with it because the job was OK and I worked with a good set of lads, but once they introduced shift work, I decided to take VS.

    I have today been accepted onto a electrical installation level 2 course at college, when walking to my car to go home I got a call from a electrical firm asking me to come in for an interview at 5 and I got the job! They've given me a weeks trial to show me what im letting myself in for and if all goes smoothly then I should be on the books in the next few weeks, I'm ecstatic. Just want to say thanks for all your help and advice.

    Greenie, firstly well done! A bit of advice though, once you have completed the lv2 make sure you carry on learning and go onto lv3 and beyond.

    Congratulations Greenie. If anyone else out there is looking for apprenticeships. We are (Toyota, MHE) are looking for two apprentices in the SE area (not neccessarily London) give me a shout and I'll give you some details.
