Not good. Along with their retro kit, they'll be having retro training as well (in the park, jumpers for goalposts etc)

Sounds like they're up to their usual tricks. They were threatened with having safety licence withdrawn last season when they wouldn't pay their police bill, if I remember rightly.

Too easy to crack the gills stereotype jokes re trespassing on council land!! ;-)

Reminiscent of Gary Nelson's experiences with Torquay in 'Left Foot In The Grave'. 'Put the posts on top of the van lads, see you up the park'.

Makes a change from the travellers taking over Priestfield a few summers back
  • I have no respect or disrespect towards the Gills, as to me they are a nothing club going nowhere, but this is bad times for them. It makes me annoyed that small clubs are trying all they can to keep going, forget chasing the dream, and their main goal is now about survival not success. I get the feeling that as has been seen with Rangers, nobody is safe or immune to going out of business. Lets just hope our owners are up in for the long term deal. Good luck Gills!

    Look at the timing, people.

If Jills owe £34,000 in unpaid utility bills or whatever, then the Council could have raised this issue a while ago - at the end of the season, for example.

But for maximum publicity, the Council have chosen to take action just as the players report back for pre-season.

    Co-incidence?

Or possibly that it only comes out now as the place has been unused for the last month or so. Looking at Scally's quotes says it all about him..."disputes on bills going back a long time"..."no idea how much we owe, wasn't aware there was an issue"..."paying on standing order, don't know why it stopped"..."we probably do owe them money".

Contradicts himself immediately with the first two comments. As for the third, the Council couldn't stop a standing order, only the club (or their Bank if they were in default).

Not sure why the Council should let it run up higher. Surely better to nip it in the bud now and from previous escapades it seems bringing things to a head like this is the only way to get Scally to actually engage.

Pay there Bills and would not have the problems ....Gills and many other think they above paying on time .....Owner lives a life of luxury in Dubai and only comes back for big games or to be in public eye when suits him.

I pay my council tax and if I owed I would be evicted -- so fair play to the medway council

If the council can use that publicity to get paid surely they are doing the right thing.
  • My son is playing in the academy reserve league for gills next year and is distraught he has to wear that kit.

The one on the right looks like he is up to something, with the smug lop-sided grin. Where is his thumb I wonder?

Gillingham will be able to retain the use of their Beechings Cross training ground after reaching an agreement with Medway Council.

The council had threatened to evict the Gills after the League Two side failed to pay bills for using the facility.

Medway Council said the club owed more than £34,000 in utility bills.

A council spokesperson confirmed the Gills had made a payment towards their use of Beechings Cross and were working towards signing a new lease.
