Someone in the know has tipped me off - he's sadly had to come out and publicly announce that Charlton will not be signing Messi.

No, Cawley put out a teaser to get more hits/sales for the SLP claiming he had a "statement" from Slater.

He quickly changed "statement" to "couple of paragraphs".

So Charlton havent announced anything and my guess is that will still be the case this time tomorrow.

  • I reckon Michael Slater is going to tell us what Olympic tickets he's got and how addicted to Charlton Life he's become :-0

All we've got to do is work out his username , and we've cracked the code!

You can be sure of one thing. It won't be on the back page. That's always reserved for the masterminds from the rusty toolbox

I can't give too much away but my sources tell me that it will contain at least two capital letters, three commas two full stops, and a split infinitive, sadly.

Can someone please post the 'statement' on here for us exiled from London addicks......thanks
  • Slater says ' I've heard about some gossip about the club, but for the last year and a half we have consistently said that we will operate the club on sound commercial principles, and I believe last seasons success vindicates our approach. Last summer Chris signed players to create a team that we believed would be able to compete in the Championship, so although he is looking to bring in a few new players , there is nothing like the urgency of last summer and we will not be rushed into decisions. We are not inactive in the transfer market, but the fact is that in League One we were a big fish in a small pond ,whereas in the Championship there are plenty of other big clubs vying for the players we are trying to sign'

    Thanks Frank.

And thanks Michael, that totally clears everything up and addresses all the fans concerns.

    Or maybe not.

If that's it then it is poor.

If you are not going to elaborate, don't even mention 'gossip'.

Certainly now makes me think CP could be unhappy.

So what he's actually said is.... Our budget is akin to that of our competitors or thereabouts.

    What does it say?

  • No dazzle he has actually said nothing

He is not bullish , nor excited , he is trying to play down expectation on signing a super star

Nothing about what people have been concerned about and exactly the amount of info I thougt we would hear

What he has said is no different to what he has said all along. He has made no comment on PV, maybe that's because there is no comment to make. I have felt all along there are some mountains being made of molehills here. To make comments like "CP must be unhappy" is just not helpfull.

Can we have some possitive threads on this board over the course of the next few days please?

I was hardly expecting a point bu point refutation of every theory/rumour heard over the last few days (that would be thousands of words long! ;)), simply an acknowledgement that they have heard these rumours but the club is in no immediate danger of catastrophe (which is not to say rough times are unthinkable.) I think that is near enough what we got.

Given how well our squad did last year i think we should all put our faith in them and stop clambering for a signing. my take is that we only want players who will really improve us and they will be top end champ players making them sought after and tough to get like Andrews. Stay calm and keep the faith

They were never going to air their dirty laundry in public anyway but most of us (on here at least) are as much concerned about the finances and stability as we are the transfer budget.

    You're right.

I don't know why we bother supporting such a shit club.

I think we should all support Man Utd.
