It does beg the question, why respond to "gossip" and then talk about the thing the "gossip" wasn't about. If he's been alerted to the conversations on here then he'll know it's much more significant than lack of signings, the more level headed of us know that even if nothing is being done publicly stuff must be going on behind the scenes - the issues are the cash-flow situation, people leaving, budgets *changing* mid transfer negotiation, TJ interfering with SCP etc.
Obviously he was never going to answer those sort of questions in the SLP though so I wish he'd said nothing at all.
(unless he got doorstepped by someone from the SLP as he left a meeting and was caught unaware and had to say something spontaneously - that quote does sound like it was said in response to a question rather than being a "statement" made to the press)0 -

I still do trust them, they have been fantastic so far. However, after the recent issues how do we know that financial meltdown isn't just around the corner (the statement is meant to put our minds at rest, but does it?) and as AFKA and others have said, we still don't know what the end game is (and at the time of the takeover were not in a position to ask questions).0 -

I just don't buy that. Over 100 points in League One with a fantastic defence and very good young goalkeeper. A team who played as a unit, digging in together and fighting with a decent record in front of goal. If we made no additions at all in the Championship I'd have us down as just above mid-table but short of a play off spot. If we strengthen up front and make a solid signing or two in the middle, maybe good squad players, we can kick on in my opinion. On paper nobody can tell me that Reading were the best side in this division last season up against West Ham and Leicester's money but it doesn't work out like that.

I don't see how this statement is looking to the past, he states we have a plan and we are following this plan. He also states we have targets but they are a lot more tricky to capture in this league, how is that focusing on the past? We are all assuming that there are other things happening, but we don't really know. I am for one looking forward to the new season and the boys that did a fantastic job for us last season running out and doing it again in the coming one. NOW COME ON FOLKS LET'S GET APPY 0

I agree,i think that Powell has fashioned a tight unit who all work for each other.That is what got us out of League one.But i was hoping for four of five signings that would kick us on to the next level.That is looking less likely but i think the current bunch will see us finish mid table.Destined to spent eternity fighting relegation from this league.

He's probably frustrated. Spent loads of money getting in players, signed about 22 which was a real gamble, sees the team win the league with the most points ever and all he gets is moaning about how we haven't signed anyone yet. That's how he'll see it anyway, and the rumours about cashflow won't help his irritation. We don't know the full reality of the money rumours and we, having finished around13th in League One the season before, genuinely have people moaning that we're destined for obscurity in the Championship. Cawley (a week late) gets wind of what's been raised on here and phones the club press office asking if its true. Gets a no comment from them, but promised a quote from the chairman for the next paper.

Reading were clearly the best side as they got the most points just as we were in League 1.
And Reading spent big in January on Roberts and Le Fondre, two players who were key in their second half of the season charge.
