It's funny how about 9 millions people can get to Olympic/Paralympic events without car parking being available around venues, but a few thousand UKIP supporting prigs from Sidcup and North Kent can't cope without it for an afternoon.

At the risk of attracting yet more abuse in the hope that someone sensible might respond can I ask a couple of questions / make sure I understand things properly?
As I understand it all roads within 3-4 miles of The Valley are permit only for the duration of the games.
I assume that there is now no need to display a permit on Saturday 25 August in some roads if one can decipher the MAP WITH NO STREET NAMES so ordinary visitors from outside the area can park as they would have done last season and prior without fear of the car being clamped, crushed or facing the possibility of having to arrange a remortgage to pay draconian parking fines!
However presumably some sort of permit will still be required to be displayed at evening games or am I wrong?0 -

I think this is the bit that applies to your question.
"The full controls will remain in place for Charlton’s Tuesday night Capital One clash with Leyton Orient (7.45pm) and the home Championship opener against Leicester City seven days later.
However, as they end at 7pm and parking is allowed in designated bays and on unmarked roads for two hours, this should only affect any supporters arriving before 5pm."
My reading of that is that you're fine to park from 5pm onwards outside of the immediate pre-existing controlled area. But that doesn't mean I want your fine if I'm wrong!

I think you are missing the main point Rothko. It is in the Club's (and our) best interests to maximise attendance at each game. Anything at all that is likely to lead fans to conclude that the parking arrangements are too difficult to understand and that they therefore will not bother pitching up for a match is BAD.Rothko said:What is it with some peoples sense of entitlement?

Good effort by Charlton so far, but not good enough I'm afraid.
A map with no road names is not as useful as a map with road names.
It's not quite good enough to say the council supplied the map, so it's not down to us.
If all the beer is off tomorrow, do we just blame the supplier & accept no responsibility ?
If you're providing information to 20,000 people, you should make it clear & that map is patently unclear.
Where I usually park, it's impossible to tell with absolute certainty, whether you can or can't park there.
They do not appear to be saying that if it was ok to park somewhere pre the Olympics, it's ok to park there for the Hull game.
Personally, I'm still none the wiser, if I can park in my usual road with absolute confidence.

I agree a map with road names (even if it's just the main ones on the boundary of the permitted area) would help everyone plan the best way of getting there and whether driving or public transport is the best option based on personal circumstances and how long that may take some people if they are not in the immediate area.
Does anyone know if the usual car parks (£5 per game) are open during this time, as that would be another option to consider for those who (like myself) usually park on street, but would prefer to play it safe and park in the car parks.
Hope this isn't taken as a moan by anyone, just trying to plan how best to get to the game.0 -

As someone who lives 2.2 miles from Harvey gardens, if you are prepared to walk exactly that distance as I will, there are still 2 permits available at my house.

the one I sometimes use is opposite Troughton Road on the factory site - can't remember the name of the road - you turn right just after the fire station before you get to the main junctin near Charlton Station. Will this be open as usual?0

The map has been provided by the Council, NOT the club, so could people please remember this before slagging off all and sundry.
And seriously, I agree that it could be better, but it's really not that difficult to work out which roads are in and which are out. Everything east of the two parks is fine, everything south of Charlton Park is fine, most of the north side of the Woolwich Road is fine and most of the area to the west of Victoria Way is fine.
Tell you what though, to help out my fellow fans, if you want to put up where you normally park and roughly where it is I'm sure those of us who don't want to make a mountain out of molehill will have a look, work it out and let you know. Can't say fairer than that.0 -

Having taken another look at the map - rotated it and enlarged it to 500% I can now read (blurred vision) the names of some of the roads, located the fire station (named) and found Victoria Way and Troughton Road are in in the Controlled Parking. So back to my previous posting - is the car park on Victoria Way (opposite Troughton Road) open as usual?0
