@SilentAddick, know.what you mean but at the same time the one national report I read this morning described Charlton as 'woeful, out fought and out classed'.
When you read unbiased reports such as that its only natural the biaised comments from disappointed fans have a degree of exageration.

Hamer Solly Morrison Cort Wiggins Stephens Hughes Hollands Kerkar Fuller Haynes. This line up should be tried for the next game.
Luckily there is a two week break for reflection and for a good hard look at the make up of the team by the management.
The line up used so far this season will just not be good enough in the longer term.
It's no-ones fault. The manager has no money to spend and the players are mostly out of their depth. Last season is history.
There must be a 'over our dead bodies' approach by the players. Hughes can play a Sean Derry role which is much needed. Just 'patrol' the middle of the field and pick up the pieces. Wright-Phillips and Kermorgant will not power through defences as they did last year. Fuller is the man to take over in attack alongside Haynes who will bring pace to the side.
The defence is OK and nobody on the books at present will improve it. Hamer should be persevered with. Jackson alas is past it. Midfield, the vital part of the team is weak. My proposed team looks stodgy but will be hard to beat.

Think we will know a lot more about how well-equipped we are for life in the championship after the next three games. Nobody will be able to claim that any of Palace, Derby and Ipswich are ''the Man City of this division'' and one would hope come next May that Charlton will be above all three of them in the table.
Five points from those three games would see us sitting very prettily on ten pts from seven and is perfectly do-able.0 -
Isn't Hughes injured? "Hamer shoild be persevered with" surely no one is suggesting that after one bad game with one vital mistake he should be dropped? he has been exceptional this season, until yesterday - imagine if we had Rob Green.0
-
I thought that Hughes might be 'on the road back'. The sooner he's fit, the better though I suspect that Powell does not fancy him. As for Hamer, the signing of Button means that he is under some pressure for his place. Other than that, what do you think of 'my team' ?Kap10 said:Isn't Hughes injured? I don't think the first goal was totally his fault.Kap10 said:Isn't Hughes injured? "Hamer shoild be persevered with" surely no one is suggesting that after one bad game with one vital mistake he should be dropped? he has been exceptional this season, until yesterday - imagine if we had Rob Green.

Agreed, it was one of those very good no man's land free kicks which are very hard for any keeper to deal withse9addick said:

First half we were a wee bit too impatient in possesion and maybe tried to make that killer pass too early and needed to keep the ball by passing it along a couple more times or so. We needed to keep a bit more with theri attacking play. We need to use this as a Championship learning curve.0

Forest are a good side no doubting that , if they'd taken their chances we could have lost 4 or 5 , 1 and people not at the game would have started to have asked questions about what was going on, where as 2-1 away against a team that has a strong chance of promotion is a good result , the performance was not.
I have been in agony this week with a dodgy back and would have preferred not to have gone, the only reason I did go was I promised my son as its his birthday today.
For me the only good thing that came out of the Forest game was the fact we didn't get a drubbing and Ricardo Fullers debut which was awesome, anyway I'm out of here I need some painkillers and need to fuss my son up and not get into a war of words with fellow supporters, bring on the Palace.....0 -

Spot on.Kap10 said:Watched the game on live streaming, thought that the second half we played with lots of spirit, blood and guts stuff and a draw for the half was about right.
We are not going to walk this league, if anything we are going to be bottom half, although I expect that to be the top of it and Fuller may even drag us into the top half.
Forest are a good side, the real tests of where we are will come when we play the Barnsleys and Peterboroughs of this league and of course the palaces.
We - Manager, Players and fans - need to learn as we go along, we also need to pick up points although not everyone of them and we need to be realistic as fans.
Palace up next maybe this result will temper some of the views that have been expressed of how we are going to tonk them and we can focus on actually getting a win .. any win.0 -

This looks like a 4 - 3 - 3 / 4- 5- 1 which I agree looked positive in the second half. But i don't understand the suggestion to drop BOTH Kermorgant and BWP. They were poor yesterday, no doubt about it, but in the three games preceding it they've looked right at home in this league - bit hasty??Lincsaddick said:Hamer Solly Morrison Cort Wiggins Stephens Hughes Hollands Kerkar Fuller Haynes. The same with Pritchard - one off day and suddenly old man Hughes is the saviour?
I think a 4-3-3 with our three best cm's Pritch/Stephens/Hollands in the middle and Fuller/Kermorgant/ one of Haynes/BWP/Kerkar looks like our best bet. It utilises all our best players and in positions they're comfortable with.

Many of us watched the full 90 minutes on live streaming, so have valid opinions on what we saw during the game.
I was really heartened by how strongly Charlton finished this match - once we took the game to Forest, they showed how vulnerable they were in defence.
I do agree with those that have said SCP could have made the substitutions earlier - even 10 minutes earlier may have made all the difference, maybe even prevented the 2nd Forest goal.
In any case, we needed another 5 or 10 minutes extra to be played and may well have equalised.
We simply ran out of time.

First half was woeful no one can paint any other picture of it
However we went In 1nil down only and although forest made us look like a div 1 team bar a complete howler we would have gone in level
2 nd half we were better still 2nd best but better
We lost by the odd goal I really think that if we play like we did in the first 2 games and in Parts of the 2nd half we will have nothing to worry about
Move on to the next game 2 week break everyone back and fit ready to and roaring to go0 -
Play the players in their correct positions , they were all bought for the new squad on what they saw in their positions for old clubs , then you expect players to move around out of position to play to full potential . Leaving a right footed winger on the bench and playing a left footer didn't work , playing a defensive midfielder as a right winger didn't work . Playing strikers as wingers didn't work. Leaving dale out of the side when they new they weren't going to accept the offer didn't work . Keep a fixed side playing players in there correct positions is the only way to be consistant, I thought the idear of having 2 players for each position was to cover injurys etc . Percentage wise should finish middle table , everyone will be happy with that then build for next season .0

@Linksaddick
Happy with forward and defensive line, not sure about, although I would have a real problem losing Kermogant from the front line.
Really struggle with mid field of
Stephens Hughes Hollands Kerkar
Maybe drop Haynes back to Right midfield with a remit to go forward and drop inside.
I would want to keep the first few games really tightthrough the centre so maybe I would sacrifice Stephens and go with this line up:
Haynes Hughes Hollands Kerkar
Kemogant Fuller
But really it shows just what a dificult job a manager has
Stephens Hughes Hollands Kerkar0 -

Forest have far more resources, better players on paper and will probably finish top 6. No shame in losing 2-1 there.
I will say though, that our pressure at the end was largely due to Forest sitting back. How many times have you seen us do that defending a lead at The Valley, letting the other team get back into it?
ps. Fuller did look immense.0 -
Haynes is not a right sided player , he is a striker who needs the ball played into the box for him to run on to using his pace. He wouldn't supply enough balls into the box for the other 2 strikers. Hughes is injured not even ready yet. Play the players in their own positions and rotate them to keep them fresh and on their toes. We have 2 in every positionKap10 said:@Linksaddick

I was at the match, agree about Fuller, and we could have snatched a very undeserved equaliser...Thought Reidy and Halford?,murdered us...0

@Kap10 I'd have no problem with that. A bit more of an attacking edge. As you say what a difficult - but lovely- job a manager has.Charltonoldboy said:

Which left foot winger? Cook is right footed and can play on either side.Charltonoldboy said:Play the players in their correct positions , they were all bought for the new squad on what they saw in their positions for old clubs , then you expect players to move around out of position to play to full potential . Wouldn't call Pritchard a defensive midfielder either, and he's done a decent job on the right of midfield so far.
Not sure why some have decided in this thread that Cook can't play in a 4-4-2 or can only play on the left. It was his second start for the club and the entire team struggled in the first half.
Agree players need to play in their best positions, but some players can comfortably play in more than one.0 -
For Palace.
Hamer
Solly
Morrison
Cort
Wiggins
Pritchard
Stephens
Hollands
Kerkar
Kermorgant
Fuller
--------
Be a very strong bench then aswell, BWP/Haynes with the pace, Jacko will cope better against tired players and can be a calming influence, Green/Waggy will tear tired full backs a new one.0 -
Well they didn't play comfortably yesterday , I'm not getting at the players , I belive play the players in their correct positions to the full potential and the rotate them when fitness a tiredness sets in. I am not digging out cook , think he is a fantastic talent but play him where you will get the best from him.saying pritchard has done a decent jobin the right mid position in this league won't get us very far . He is a very good box to box central midfielder who can defend against strong teams and will create against weaker teams , I'm also not digging him out .Scoham said:

please stop digging players out with your fair and understandable logic.0

Bit concerned we've now conceded 4 goals in 4 games.
That could mean we concede 46 goals this season.
Sort it out, SCP.

We were outclassed yesterday but it's not the end of the world. They are a very good side and Sharp should help Forest convert midfield dominance into goals.
Stephens will be back for the Palace game and Chris Powell will have a think about the right side of midfield and, I suspect, the loan market. Fuller will also inspire a fear factor at this level, given what he achieved at Stoke in the last six years.
We'll be ok.0
