I think we have a young up and coming manager, who, all things being equal, will be a top flight manager one day. That said I dont think he is an amateur (I think that is insulting to a man who has nothing but the interests of our club at heart), is he stubborn? I think Powell is his own man, so maybe it might come across as stubborn.
What I do think is that he is a very conservative man and manager, when you think about it, he played for years under Curbs, a very conservative (read 'Safe') manager, he then worked is an understudy to Sven, another very 'Safe' manager. I think Powell needs to be a more proactive manager and less reactive, especially playing at home, it may be hard for him to move away from his comfort zone, but he is going to have to do that.
I think he will be reflecting this morning, and if he was being honest with himself, he would agree that he has been maybe too loyal to some of the players that got us into this very good league, I think he would also agree that the subs were made too late. If I am right expect Rasak to come in on saturday, if fully fit, with a 4-5-1 with Fuller up top.
I also feel if we get 2 wins on the trot, then we will finally get our season started, I fully expect Powell to be able to do this, if he can't then the other option would be horrendous 'cos this board are not going back to league 1 without a fight.
Finally, no manager or player is above criticism, and I feel if its made constructively then more posters views on here would be taken seriously.

Very quiet when things go well, but out of the woodwork like a rocket when things go pear shaped. I'm sure there are a few now who have written off Lawrie Wilson, eating a bit of humble pie as he has put in a few decent games, as soon as he has a stinker they'll be on here telling us all about it

I don't know about other clubs' supporters, but this has been a poison in the Charlton system since I first started following and supporting in 1961. There ALWAYS must be a whipping boy, a player who frustrated fans can hurl abuse at and chew the carpet over. The internet of course gives even more scope for torrents of abuse. Part of me can excuse this behaviour. If work is going badly, if the wife is ugly, if the car won't start, if life in general is not living up to expectations, what better way to relieve all that pent up frustration than to hurl abuse at a man in shorts with nice legs who is 10 times more talented than you, earns 10 times what you do, and shags 1000 times more lovely dollies than you do. Better hurling abuse and venting frustration in a semi controlled environment like a football ground or a website than running up Eltham High Street slashing at all and sundry with a machete
Amateur in that he does it in his spare time rather than as his main occupation? No, clearly he's a professional. Amateur in that he does without pay? No, he's paid well just like any other professional manager. Amateur in that he is without professional qualifications? No, he's got his badges and has just been awarded a doctorate. Just because a player comes under criticism doesnt mean he's being out to be a scapegoat. If a player comes under criticism from me its because i dont rate what ive seen from him. I dont rate Wilson. I didnt rate Francis. I didnt rate Mooney. It wasnt because i felt the need to put all the blame squarely on one player. If Jackson, or Stephens, or Solly has a bad game, id point it out. If they play well, then id point it out. Unfortunately i wasnt able to make the Blackburn game but by all accounts Wilson had a good game. If i had seen it then i would have given him praise. but was that good by his standards or by championship level standard? have we lowered our expectations of what we expect from a championship level RB because he started badly? last night, i dont think he played well. i dont think he was dire like the palace game but he wasnt good. He was OK. Fuller was good. On the player marks i gave him a 6. he works tirelesly and i appluad that, but i think he countered that with poor execution and the ability to give the ball away at completely the wrong times. The whole scapegoat/whipping boy claim drives me mad. If a player is coming under popular criticism then its probably because he didnt play well and people have the right to point that out.
too late with subs and why we finished with 4 defenders on the pitch god knows!!! 4 players marking 1 striker!!! waggy+ both loam players should came on after 60mins when still 1-1 fresh legs and extra pace to get behind the defenders and why take off green!!! I am sorry to say this but league one CP did really well but he is making so many mistakes in this league like playing most of the games with no winger on the pitch so no pace or tricky to get pass players. He is making so many late subs with only tens mins left!! Pointless!!! Give them at least 20-30 mins to make an impact!! I am starting to worry about chris sorry but it's true.

I agree with EVERY word you write Gary .. BUT ... [you knew it was coming (:->) ] .. BUT .. this is not about justified criticism of a player this is akin to playground bullying. I'll say right now that I attend few games at the valley in any season, I attend a lot of away games where the 'hardcore' CAFC fans are more knowledgable and less likely to jeer and abuse the players, in fact quite the reverse. Perhaps the 'modern' fan is less likely to pick on a whipping boy because of hair colour, facial features, etc etc. Last night on here we had a poster calling Wilson 'a useless cnut' .. he claims to have been at the game and didn't state if he shouted this at Wilson as well as posting it, either case, it is uncalled for. The general consensus seemed to be that Wilson had a decent game and is doing well. This poster seems to have a 'thing' about Wilson and I'll wager that if Wilson were to score the winner in the Cup Final he's still be classed a 'f88ing useless cnut'. Perhaps 'bullying' and 'whipping boy choosing' has gone out of fashion. My cynical old self does not think it has.
Very frustrated when i posted, and slightly emptional as a result of a few drinks and watching us go 2-1 down when we should of been about 5-1 up.
Overall i think CP has purchased some decent players ...just not sure he's getting anywhere near the best out of them. Tactics worry me as this isnt the first time its happened this season. Not sure inexperience can be blamed either, I would guess he has been in charge now for at least 60 games
