Looks like its gonna be a done deal if they can agree a compensation package with Burnley.

  • Odd one, can anyone think of a manager going back to a former club without having first been sacked at the club he joined?

Bruce at Wigan I guess, but that was several moves down the road.

not settled up north saw him on the train back from there once said its a long old journey
  • Not quite the done deal as compo still to be agreed but apparently Burnley still owe AFCB some dosh for Ings. Be a very, very popular decision though.

Martin Allen at Barnet maybe but perhaps he walked rather than was sacked thinking about it.

    Hessenthaler at Gillingham

Pretty sure Eddie Mitchell slated him after he left. Is he still there?

Yep, still there, still likes a drink at a match and, from what I heard last week, still likes to get mouthy at their fans when he's got some security guards around him.

Very odd, especially as he'd be voluntarily be moving to a smaller club, a division below. In an alternative universe, he would have become Charlton boss instead of Powell...
  • Walk around Sandbanks, laze on the beach at Bournemouth, maybe a cycle in the New Forest, a pint in a nice country pub.

    Or live in Burnley.

Blimey, it's not that hard a choice, is it?

Would be surprised at this, Burnley aren't setting the world alight but hasn't Austin got 15 goals already this season?

If Howe is married with a young family, you can bet your boots they all miss their friends.
    So domestic issue here?

Living in Burnley = culture shock

There has always been something a bit incongruous about Howe @ Burnley. He looks too young and too callow for a job in a tough northern town. Now Bournemouth .... he fits in well there

think they miss each other as his wife and kids still live in Bournemouth area. Can't blame 'em for not moving to Burnley.

    i.e. Southern Softie :-)

I can understand why he'd prefer living on the South Coast to Burnley, especially if his wife and young son are still down south, but it still looks like a step backwards especially when the Palace and Charlton jobs were both around before he took the Burnley one, and Bournemouth are currently 21st in L1, and are already 15 points off the automatic promotion places!

I am kind of glad its all going tits up for him, the way he messed us about and then going to Palace for a last min interveiw before finally going to Burnley.

And this was all after he stated he was not leaving Bournemouth.

Let him struggle in league 1 with Eddie Mitchell as his boss

He's a really nice bloke to be fair to him. In the Powell category. Don't understand why he'd want to be involved with Mitchell again other than money though.

I still think he's got it in him to be a successful manager.

Going back to Bournemouth though...a sign of a lack of ambition or a case of getting out of Burnley as soon as possible?

What is going to happen if in six months time another club come in for him - stick at Bournemouth out of loyalty, or move on with fans/chairman on his back screaming blue murder ("we gave him an out and this is how he repays us" etc etc).

    Interesting one.

I think he has an affinity with Bournemouth in the same way Sir Chris has with us. Of course it didn't stop him leaving, but that was ambition. Pleased he didn't join us as we wouldn't have Sir Chris then. Bournemouth actually have some Russian money behind them so whilst they haven't set the league alight yet - they are in a better financial position than when he left. Bournemouth is also a much nicer place to live in than Burnley which has to be a factor if you have a family. It is probably one of th ebest places to live in the country.

Chatting to a Palace fan at the gym this morning and he said that Howe turned down Palace because they wanted him to have Freedman as his assistant but Howe wanted to pick his own man.

I just assumed that he turned them down because they are Palace!

Absolute class manager who made the wrong decision going to burnley and leaving Bournemouth in the first place. What he did at Bournemouth first time round was nothing short of a miracle. Hope it works out for him as he's always come accross as genuine.
  • Now 1 point clear at the top of L1.
