  • Am I the only one that doesn't think 4-5-1 is negative? Is it negative when Spain play 4-6-0? It comes down to who is playing obviously if you play 5 defensive midfielders then that is negative. If you play 5 attacking midfielders then is that negative?

4-5-1 is how the formation should line up, however with fluidity it becomes 4-3-3.
Our midfielders don't have that fluidity, so we are rigid, and don't have that attacking side of the formation.

Norfolk Addick, a good question. In my opinion, especially at home, we need to start with two up front. A midfielder who might become a striker is not real striker, a striker is a specialist with moving and finishing talent. This Championship is very different from League One, it requires positive rather than negative thinking.

4-5-1 with pace and energy can quickly become 4-4-3 and back again.

Granpa is right that it all looked very defensive on Saturday with not too much being created but in my opinion it was even worse in the second half when we went 4-4-2 because our powder puff midfield simply isn't up to it at this level. It frequently got overrun in league 1 too but the comparitive lack of quality of the opposition combined with more clinical finishing than we have seen so far enabled us to paper over the cracks.
