Does Powell need a "Lennie Lawrrence"?
This is no disrespect to Powell, Dyer or any of the current coaching staff but I keep thinking that maybe we are missing that older wiser "been there done it" type figure in dugout.
With Chris being such a young manager sometimes I think it could be hugely beneficial if Chris could turn to a former manager with huge amount of experience to help guide him when ever he needs it. Clearly it worked at Palarse. I know we have Keith Peacock but its unclear whether his role is full time and how much of a role he has within the club/coaching..
Do you think this could work having someone in full time? If so who would you have? And do you think Powell needs it?
Just a topic for discussion, I'm 100% behind Powell and its meant in no way disrespectful to him.

I can't see what damage Curbs would do , you could argue it would undermine CP , but be honest would Curbs get any more from our current bunch of players if he was in charge , could AC maybe be a advisor / mentor ?
I'm sure CP wants to be his own man and not managed with kids gloves , i know we are in a naff position , and the result was pants on Saturday , but don't we tend to over react when things go squiffy?0 -
I would be amazed if Curbs came out of his time off to just do a behind the scenes/backup role. Curbishley is a much more senior manager than CP as things stand.

No. I think CP together with his staff have the skill set to deal with any issues that may arise without the need for a Lennie figure. Furthermore he can refer any points that he feels he needs the voice of experience too either KP (by phone or in person) or some of the other contacts he must have made in football.
The appointment of AC in a director of football role or similar would undermine CP (at least in perception) and probably lead to CP leaving the club.0 -

When Pardew was at West Ham he brought in Keith Peacock as a coach as soon as the Curbuishley reign ended, having previously used him a lot for advice (hence Peacock being at West Ham before Curbs and Day were appointed!)

When Powell was appointed Lenny was available having done a mentoring job at Bristol Rovers. I at the time would have liked Powell to have appointed Lennie as number two and still believe that it would have been a good appointment and a better one than Dyer who was as inexperienced as Powell was at the time. I think now that a mentor would be wrong, however the lot of a number two is the questioning of what they do. Mervyn Day was often questioned and for me there is a question mark against Dyer. But a change in backroom staff in my opinion would be wrong.
As Henry says Peacock is there and I am sure that CP is able to get advice from Curbs, Sven etc as and when he wants.

This is the thing, football is an incestious business, everyone know everyone else. Particularly at the highest level. SCP probably has the phone number of sir Alex and the like on his phone. Remember he played for England and was head of the PFA for a while. Although another experienced head watching them train everyday would help, this is the first real blip with SCP own team. This is part of his learning curve as a manager. I saw an interview with Powell where he said that he does talk to Curbishley about the team and tactics etc.. With this in mind I would have thought leave it alone. Clearly when CP talking to AC it is, effectively, free advice as the club don't have to pay him anything.
At this stage if someone was brought in above CP it would make his position untenable, in my view.0 -

I agree but we already have Peacock and Hart on the payroll. Obviously I dont know what happens behind closed doors but I dont see the harm in Hart and Peacock getting more involved in management meetings and passing their knowledge onto a good but inexperienced coaching team. I started a thread three years ago about the possibility of Lennie being our Director of Football to help Parky. The general response was that we didn't need either because we had Steve Waggott or because DOFs don't work or because Parky should have been good enough at the time to do the job on his own.
Might have been a different story with Lennie though I have to say I really don't think SCP has done that much wrong to date.0 -

Nobody knows more about struggling against relegation in division 2 than Keith Peacock.
He spent about three quarters of his playing career doing just that!0 -

Agree and don't agree Off_it firstly this is a forum so a good place for people to air their views which mostly is a good thing. You are right once the players are on the pitch it is their responsibility to do the job they are paid to do...couldn't agree more. But maybe a wiser head may have said to CP that to replace Wilson with Stephens and move Pritchard wide where he can't play isn't maybe tactically that sensible. Just a thought.
than on the other hand I recall when Bryan Robson was manager of Middlesborough and they bought in Terry Venables to help (Run) with the team. Robson looked such a prat I am sure the players lost all respect for him so on balance no lets stay with what we have.0 -

Just don't understand how some people take any snippet of "possible" info and go into hyperboil, analysing and re-analysing it until they go round ands round in circles and disappear up their own arses.
