A cheeky fiver on Caulker to score anytime 14/1, thanks very much Paddy Power that cheered me right up :-)
  • If David James had put in such a rank goalkeeping display - even in a friendly - the press would be hammering him.

I'm a massive Zlatfan, but his fourth goal cannot count as one of the best of all time. The keeper wasn't in his goal he was farting about doing a rubbish cushioned header, so however good the finish it was no more than punt. It's like people that said the Scorpion Kick was the greatest save of all time. It was just a trick shot in a friendly enabled by a poor freekick and that was all this was.

I think Hart has got a bit more in credit from outstanding performances previous for the press to have a real go just yet, he's still very young for a goalkeeper.

Have a look at the bounce of the ball before heads it, he shouldnt have been farting about there granted

    This.

Its seems whenever someone with a bit of a reputation scores a decent goal, the usual FIFA/PES merchants come out claiming it to be the 'best ever'.

Incredible overhead kick by Yann in his younger days. Not seen it before on all the compilations of him on YouTube.
  • Okay, you twisted my arm... :-)
  • The Swedes love English football, so it was fitting we were there to open their new stadium, and it was no surprise that Gerrard got a good reception, I dare say a few of the crowd have been to Anfield to watch Liverpool!

Slightly iffy performance by Hart, but then he hasn't been at his best for Man City this season either, along with the Man City defence

Fabulous technique, wasn't it? A goal to savour.

Totally unmarked, mind you. Bet the oppo defenders got a rollocking!

    No chance.

Totally agree, sure he'll be one of the world's best. It just grinds my gears that the press round on some players whenever there's a hint of an error while others seem to get away with a lot. It was a very odd bounce, right enough.

    It was a friendly.

Thats the time to give players a run out and see how they do.

We don't play all our first team in friendlies and have been known to play two different teams in each half.

The important thing is to win the games that matter.

'Friendly' or not, the idea is to win games to maintain momentum and prestige. Don't think that Hodgson was not totally cheesed off at the result, although he is really to blame. AS soon as he pulled Gerrard and the more experienced players off I knew we'd lose it. And really, what knowledge has he gained from playing Zaha and Jenkinson for a few minutes ?. The idea surely would be to start with the new boys and bring the more experienced players on to shore up a winning position or conversely to go for a win from a losing position. The result last night from 2-1 up was a shocker and I don't care how brilliant was Ibrahamovic. The callow players lost us the game in the last 10 minutes

Odd question but were the toilets mixed? That really threw me at Malmo, weirdo sitting down to wee nation that they are.

Some were mixed but others weren't. No, I have no idea why that is either.

I don't think they were intended to be mixed but only the entrance doors were marked so if you went in through an exit door it was pot luck.

The door I went through had man clearly marked on it so I was slightly surprised to find there were more wc's than urinals

I obviously absolutely loved Zlatan's goals and felt right proud about it all too, although not in the same way as when we got 4-4 in Berlin. Less likely perhaps that he would have got them in a competitive game.

Thought Welbeck's 1-1 was a real good goal too. Sublime cross by Young.

It was a strange game, N-M. One of my colleagues is was a fireman at Råsunda and now at Friends Arena and we were comparing notes this morning. Take away the goals (the free-kick was iffy but the rest were all good goals) and what are you left with? Did either keeper actually make a save?

(I guess I shouldn't say too much - where you live is probably much too close to Zlatan-country)

My friend and I actually spent a fair bit of the game playing mini-pool and foosball by the TV. There were some incredibly dull passages in the match.
