Well played son a true Charlton fan!
After the match in the academy lounge Liam Brady (head of all recrutment and Arsenal legend) comes into the room to talk to me and Alfie about signing! He turns to Alfie and says " I hear your a midfielder out of all the midfielders in the world who is your favourite"? Alfie pauses for thought and comes out with "it can only be Johnny Jackson"!!!! LOL
Liam Brady replies "Yeah but all left foot"..... Hahaha

Wouldn't he be better choosing arsenal? Because if unfortunately he was to get released then he'd maybe find it easier getting a new club, whereas at charlton if he was to get released he might struggle to as lower league and people would be more inclined to sign him due to the 'arsenal pedigree'

My goddaughter is 8 and she has signed for Everton girls. Proper contract and everything and only allowed to switch teams during the transfer window?!!
Im going up next weekend to watch her play as they've got Man Utd away. Looking forward to it.

Personally I don't think clubs should be able 'sign' kids until they are at least 12.
Not only do most kids completely lose interest by early teens, but if they are made to stay at local clubs then it promotes the need for more qualified coaches.

Even with Arsenal having a superb set up (Millions to throw at it) there isnt much between all teams from U9 to U16!

Or of course you could take the view that among the 100s kids at Arsenal you could easily get "lost", whereas at Charlton you may well be given more of an opportunity to shine? Why do you have to sign with a single club? Can't you just 'play the field' as it were, experience all of the teams, then at around the age of 14 when clubs start to think about who's gonna play in their academies you can make the right decision at that time. Bearing in mind this was a few years ago, my brother was in a similar situation, although aged around 13, he had loads of clubs wanting to sign him on schoolboy forms, my dad was advised to not let him sign and he trained at many clubs. He still ended up getting an apprenticeship and was able to pick the right club for him at the age of 15.

You have hit the nail on the head mate. Over at the Arsenal academy you have pics on the wall of all the teams from the past 10 years. Out of the players (maybe 300 boys?) you only have Wiltshire and Frimpong that are playing for Arsenal!Algarveaddick said:

You have also got Solly and Evina in the line ups.
The coach that trained Solly from the age of 9 to 12 before he left for Charlton teaches Alfie on a Wednesday night and said that Solly was quality but not up to Arsenal standard at the that time!!!
I said to him it was their loss Charlton's gain!!

Arsenal on his footballing cv would look unreal though, a lot of arsenals youth do go onto be professionals from what I can remember, playing lower leagues or premier league, as clubs like the arsenal pedigree0

I have said before, just look at any football yearbook from a few years ago. That only has the kids who have signed pro forms, there are dozens of Arsenal players from all over the world, 95% of whom you have never heard of again.
