Help wanted - pubs for Saturday

Hi Folks, all set for another trip to the Valley and can any of you please recommend some bars that serve good quality continental beers and real ales (would rather sup tea than the likes of Fosters, Carling, Carslberg and the likes). We are arriving at Kings Cross and heading to the Valley from there via London Bridge way. Thanks in anticipation and looking forward to the match and the mighty Terriers locking horns with your Guys again!.

Market Porter at Borough Market is probably your best best, about 5 min walk from London Bridge Station.0

You won't really get continental lagers in Charlton. You'll get real ales in the two pubs in charlton village, turn right out of the station walk up the hill, the Swan and Bugle. Although im not sure the Bugle would allow colours. the rose of Denmark is another turn left and left again from the station.
For a nicer drinking experience Greenwich is a good shout but would need to get back on the train to the ground. Can recommend some there if you need it.
Borough market by London bridge is good but will be packed.0 -
.......apologies, as per earlier post Boro market is 5 minutes from London Bridge! (trying to do two things at once here). Is there any bar that specialises in German Beers or Wheat Beers?.0

Yes it's on route. Ten mins from London bridge and then a further ten from there to charlton.
Google Brew Wharf in borough market. That might be what you fancy.

The Bull in Neasden and the Harrow Inn at Willesden are great pubs and both just five minutes from the ground.0 -

......thanks and sorry if this type of thread has become tiresome on here, am of the view that it is always best to ask them in the know where to go!. If you've got plenty of time head to the old brewery in the grounds of the naval college. It is stunning but nearly five pound a pint! But it's a bit of tooing and froing.
Borough market is nice and easy but think someone said Millwall and Palace are at home so it could be crowded.0 -

If you want Continental- Europe and US - then the Rake is ideal. Bit pricey, but massive selection. It is just opposite Swark Cathedral.Karim_myBagheri said:the rake in borough market is good for real ale.
The Market Porter has become very popular in recent years. For me the only good thing about it is that it sells Harveys, from Lewes, which is a beautiful Sussex beer. But The Rake is better for continental beer, be it Westmalle or Sierra Nevada.
A nice pub that is about a seven mins walk from the Bridge is the Royal Oak on Tabard Street that also sells Harveys. They still have a lounge. Great food too.

..........All, thanks very much for taking the time to post your recommendations, much appreciated (and due to a liking for good quality lagers, am well used to paying over the odds). Just need to sit down tonight and put an itinerary together!.
On the subject of the match, which Town side will turn up?. For me, with no Beckford and Vaughan we appear toothless up front, lots of possession and passing that ultimately comes to nothing. Vaughan definitely out and fingers crossed Beckford plays, he gives us that cutting edge and we have plenty of quality balls being played in to the box from both left and right, just need somebody on the end of them!.
Always like a trip to the Valley, a proper football club with proper fans and like ourselves, a club that does a lot of work in their local community. Will be back on here Sunday for my own view of what unfolded, sure there will be plenty from your side!.

Agree with Curb it. Head for Greenwich. A short bus ride or three stops on train and something differnt. World heritage site as well.

Gooner hater gave me an another idea re Woolwich. Take the boat from London bridge all the way to woolwich. There is a bar on board so you won't get thirsty. Great bit of site seeing. Then walk thru the Arsenal to the Dial arch pub. Got a huge selection on offer there.
Short bus ride or train journey back to Charlton. Or cab.

Best plan LBTF is to get in the ground early doors - we've done a lot of work on the away end catering and bar facilities in the last 6 months. A nice range of beers on offer and some lovely grub - much better than you've seen elsewhere for sure.0
