"Does your boyfriend know you're here"
"We can see you holding hands"
    "Sing when you're rimming"
"We forgot that you were queer"
"You take it up the aaaaaaarse, you take it up the arse"
"We know why you're standing up"

All have to be sung. They're to a club renound for being in the gay capital and are not in any way malicious. I don't know one gay person who would be offended by us singing these; man up and stop being so precious and PC.

I know plenty of gay people, and I can tell you each & every one of them would be offended.
    I bet u do ;)

I agree has to be sung, its just banter! in no way is it near singing a racist song...

Sing em, everyone seems to be making way to much of this. It's a football game chants will always happen and if people get offended over petty sterotype chants then they shouldn't be at the game.

The main reason I hope we don't sing these songs is because of the absolute mountain worth of over the top comments that will come out on here the day after if the Millwall game is anything to go by.

LOL correct way OTT lately on this site, fair enough dont be impressed about certain things but constantly moaning and saying how bad it makes the club looks doesnt really achieve anything. Just comes across like forum police IMO

Was thinking about my first home game of the season, now I cannot afford the vaseline... (No homosexuals have been harmed in the writing of this unpolitically correct posting)
  • There not Brighton fans but gay friends of mine found the "we can see you holding hands" chant funny but i can imagine it is boring for Brighton fans now.

That song is harmless in my opinion but have to agree some of the other's are offensive and really should be treated the same way as racist songs which i would hope we all agree are morally wrong.

I should imagine it will be significantly higher than it was for the big pink derby on Saturday. Imagine, the Nigels are top of the league and on fire atm as well.

So we play by your rules. If someone is offended by what you sing its their problem and they should have to stay away from Charlton?

You don't care if anyone is offended, in fact you don't want those people at the Valley. Doesn't matter that is is a "petty stereotype" that re-enforces and normalises that prejudice.

"Chants will always happen" so that makes it ok. Racist/homophobic, doesn't matter as they will "always happen".?

Truth is what was acceptable 50, 30 or even 15 years ago in terms of racist chanting isn't acceptable now. Things do change and racist chanting is one of those. Homophobic chanting will be next. And a good thing too.

Matt Lucas was interviewed on a docu last year about how he felt about the songs sung to Brighton and he said the same, that generally it was funny. There's a sense of wit and irony about some of it, but as we really have very little supply of either of those I would suggest we steer well clear of this sort of thing.

Simply, can we really do no better than copy everyone else and sing crass songs about gays?

If for no other reason (as it seems some of you can't see reason) can we not sing the same old chants because they're boring?
Maybe its because we don't have that much against BHAFC that we can't come up with new chants to throw at them.
The "He's better than Gus" one was good. Anyone got anything else?
  • I genuinely can not believe we are actually having a serious discussion about whether or not to sing homophobic songs. The answer is clearly that we should absolutely not. Would we be having this argument about racist songs?

Most people from Brighton are very proud they have a large LGBT community, why is making reference to that in such songs as "we can see you holding hands" and "does your boyfriend know you're here?" Seen as offensive? A lot of people being offended for others in this thread.

As has been covered before some gay people DO find it offensive.

Why make up this stuff about people being offended for others. How do you know if any of the people commenting on here are gay or not.

And if people aren't gay or black or Jewish does that mean they are not allowed to speak out against prejudice? Surely it is more reliant on straight, white, gentiles to take a stance.

But it's a lose-lose either way. If you aren't part of the persecuted group then you are not allowed to say anything as you are "being offended for others" . If you are part of the group then you "have a chip on your shoulder/no sense of humour/playing the race/gay/jew card."

You of all people know the Paster Nielmoller quote I take it, KentAddick.
