As in initial post plus potatoes roasted in goose fat, at least two types of stuffing and as many nuts as I can possibly eat at all points during the day.0

Not sure about Christmas day yet. But i don't like Turkey or Lamb and the wife isn't keen on fish. So will either be beef or chicken. I'm leaning towards a top quality cut of beef (any recommendations?)0

As I often say to the wife, if turkey is so damn good, how come we won't touch it with a bargepole for the other 364 days of the year? Turkey can naff right off!0

I say the same about the relatives :-)Rizzo said:As I often say to the wife, if turkey is so damn good, how come we won't touch it with a bargepole for the other 364 days of the year? Turkey can naff right off!

Yorkshires with Christmas dinner ? You're getting confused with sunday lunch.
I could probably eat a plate of just pigs in blankets.
Never had goose before, must be better than turkey which let's face it is pretty terrible.0 -
You dont get a lot of meat on a Goose . Going for Turkey , beef and Pheasant this year with all the trimmings and all the sauces , wallop .0
-
Duck and a bit of turkey (personally can't stand turkey, peasants food).0
-
Goose is shit, had it one year, too rich and would probably go better with pancakes and plum sauce like crispy duck from the chinese0
-
Nice piece of belly pork with the usual veg to accompany it.0

Not keen on Turkey we always have a joint of beef as well and I tend to have that although I do like cold turkey sandwiches with stuffing and Cranberry sauce0
-
Beef is okay in steak form but not a fan of roast beef. This may be due to both my family and the inlaws feeling that it needs to be incinerated, dry, stringy and generally inedible before it's a proper Sunday roast. Had a roast at the inlaws a few weeks ago and they were saying "This is a lovely piece of meat". I had to refrain from yelling "It might have been a few hours before you took it out of the oven!. Meat should not crumble when you stick a fork in it!!"daveaddick said:Not keen on Turkey we always have a joint of beef as well and I tend to have that although I do like cold turkey sandwiches with stuffing and Cranberry sauce

With you on that Rizzo. Last year we bought a piece of Sirloin from Sparkes at The Standard and we ate it medium rare it was bloody lovely but know what you are talking about my late departed mum could take any meat and convert it into a charcoal frisbee by the time we sat down to eat it0

Or couldnt you just have Roast Spuds and squash half of them with your fork?0 -
Can I suggest a little drizzle of honey over the parsnips for the last 5-10 mins of cooking time.0
-
I like turkey - easy to dry out, but if you cook it right it's nice.
I love the trimmings - goose fat roasties, pigs in blankets, roast carrots and parsnips, sausagemeat stuffing, sage an onion stuffing, bread sauce, thick gravy... can't wait.
I hate sprouts.
Pudding has to be chocolate fudge yule log, don't like Christmas pudding or mince pies..0 -

Turkey is HORRIBLE.Rizzo said:As I often say to the wife, if turkey is so damn good, how come we won't touch it with a bargepole for the other 364 days of the year? Turkey can naff right off!
The wife and I are having Christmas at ours for the first time this year. We're having my mum and her partner, and the wife's brother and parents. They never usually spend time together, so it could be awkward.
We've decided to not try and mix all of the tiny changes in traditions that we each grew up with, and we're going to make our own traditions.
I always had pheasant of guinea fowl growing up; my wife's family always have turkey.
This year we're having duck. And if they complain, then I really won't care!0
