SuperKev was one of the best players on the pitch today. He chased down every ball, harried our defenders constantly & held the ball up well allowing other Colchester players into the game. He also took his goal very well. When down to 10 men he was the one playing right wing when in defence, moving up to support the lone striker when Colchester were attacking. His young son even scored in the HT penalty shoot-out. He had a tough time at Charlton but he is a decent, talented player. Well played Kev.0

Yes he did, but he didn't celebrate in front of the Charlton fans. He ran back to the half-way line, where he was mobbed by his team mates. At the end of the game it was also good to see him come up the pitch to where we were all standing & give us all a clap.0

I totally agree. He is better player then many on here give him credit for and very unlucky with injuries.
He did celebrate but not giving it the hand cupped to the ear or mouthing off to Charlton fans.0 -

Keefy Peacock many years ago announced him as the best youngster he had seen at Charlton. One Paulo Di Canio thought he was a top player. He was kept at the club and his contract renewed over and over again. Perhaps that suggests that they might know something about his ability. Injuries did for him and then when re-introduced he had to build up his confidence again and again. Its very easy to lump on a bandwagon of hostility. People are doing it again with McCarthy yet I've seen nothing to suggest that he's as bad as all that. (Mistakes against Stoke when he had just come on don't justify his current status as a whipping boy imho).
Lisbie showed yesterday that given some faith in him, he is a decent striker and certainly good enough at this level.0 -

Yes, and he may very well score 19 goals for Colchester - and all this season.
Because he is good enough.
Something that Curbs and Peacock (and Di Canio) all knew at Charlton.
For Lisbie's sake, I truly hope he proves wrong those that maligned him.
And if he should finish the season as one of the Championship's leading goalscorers, there would be many people in the game that would be very pleased for him.0 -

Most professional footballers have tremendous ability but ability counts for little on it's own. Confidence and self belief make the player.
At 18 years old he looked a world beater. Lisbie's self belief, for whatever reasons, drained away from him.
Charlton fans at the match yesterday have all said how good he was.
People are now seeing that give him a bit of moral support and a nurturing environment, he is flourishing.0 -

I agree with you totally Nolly. Was with us for gawd knows how long, scored 19 goals in 200 odd games and I was glad he went. Three goals for Col U hasn't changed my mind one iota. He'll score no more than ten goals this season and if he ever plays in the PL again I'll eat every hat I've got.0 -

Except that yesterday if he hadn't scored we would have won the game 2-1 and be in the top three so that statement seems a bit odd to me.0 -

Why are some people trying to make out that Lisbie is the next Pele...
He was rubbish when he was with us. Lets just see how he gets on over a season rather than 4-5 games. Good luck to him if it works out for him but I think that all that will show is that we should have got rid of him sooner for the sake of both parties.0 -
The key thing here is that Lisbie is now playing at "his" level in the Championship and not in the Premiership where he was never going to be consistently good enough.
In the Championship he will get plenty of chances and will take some of them whereas in the Premiership he would get far fewer chances and be under much more pressure to score which would further sap his confidence.
I think it was a good move for him and us, why would anyone want to hate him?0 -
