    They're always decent on their own patch and conditions theoretically favoured them against an inexperienced, young English team.

    The game was a war of attrition and England won it thanks both to Owen Farrell's excellent place kicking and their greater discipline in not giving penalties away in kickable areas.

    It wasn't a feast of running rugby but it was a compelling match of its type.

    The nearest footballing equivalent being nicking an early goal away from home then parking the bus for the rest of the match and hanging on.

    I enjoyed it - a complete contrast to last weekend's running and passing game against Scotland, but England adapted and played to the weather conditions. Ireland tried to play a running and passing game and predictably spilt a lot of possession unnecessarily.
