For me Pompey.

Always hated an open terrace, but standing on one is fair enough. Sitting is a different story altogether.

And its always cold there....

Sellout is a pants ground! The Old den, intimidating but minging. Elm park as dan says!
  • Old Reading away- uncovered seating and it rained and we lost!

    Only went there once.

    With Charlton,

Harlow, Layer Road, St James Park (the real one), Newport County and The Odsal (Bradford City)
  • There have been some shockers over the years.

Oxford's old ground, Dagenham, Bristol Rovers when they played at Bath, Ayresome Park...

But nothing can top the view from behind the floodlight pylon at The Den.

Crystal Palarse - their so called 'stature' in football, the ground is an absolute disgrace....If I ever agreed to bombing, that place would be first on my list....!!

    ......and Colchester!
  • Personally i quite liked the Old Manor ground and layer road- had/have charecter.
  • I'd forgotten about Oxford's old ground. 7/8 different style sheds. It made the Valley look good!! Was there for the game when Robbo scored a belter at the death!

    What was it called again?

    The Manor Ground ?

i used to like it. Looked like a meccano set but had character to it. Alex Dyer scored a fantastic goal there once.

It didn't have seating on the away end though ??? did it ?
  • True.

Maybe I'm getting too used to having cover at h/t, proper toilets etc..... Getting all spoilt and demanding in my old age!!
  • I liked it too- pitch sloped badly down and to the right away from the away end.

And it was the match in the play-off season that i knew we would do something because- for once, we played really poorly and knicked the match with the above mention John Robinson goal

I liked some of the old grounds, alright facilities were shite, but more to them, then the souless system built stadiums we've got now.

What was Kingstonian's Ground is pretty pants although I think it is owned by AFC Wimbledon now. Has the smallest bar in the world.

Priestfield.... It's generally a hole anyway, but it's especially bad in their temporary scaffolding stand. You could feel the thing swaying!

cambridge and the old southend away end.

always took good numbers then your stuck on an open terrace with only 4 steps back.
  • Leicester's old ground - Filbert St you were stuck in the corner on a low rise stand.

Fratton Park: went twice, open terracing, always rained.

    Selhurst: just a dump.

There was always something grizzly about Oakwell then again anything assiciated with Yorkshire is pretty heinous.......

    (Man I am bitter................)

Medders: Good choice Priestfield - didn't see much of that friendly in 2001 lol!

    And why was that Abs?

At least they stream the commentary into the bog!

The commentary was not the only thing that was streaming and didn't we go for a curry in Rochester afterwards...........

Rochester by day looks so much different to Rochester by night when it was your birthday last Jan........
  • As others have said the old grounds have character. I find the new grounds; walkers stadium, jjb, st mary's the worst just lack character, no atmosphere and more often than not in the arse end of nowhere.
  • Dynamo Kiev, without a doubt. An enormous stadium and they may have improved it since I saw it last, but you had to be thankful that you got out alive at the end of the game. I expected the whole thing to collapse into one enormous heap of rubble. A bit like the East Terrace in the old days, I suppose!
