Any relation to John Madden?0

How was it being an "educated" footballer?
Did you get much grief in the dressing room?0 -
Interesting guest, you would never have believed that Lawrie would play in a League Cup final and in the old First Division based on his exploits with Charlton in my opinion.
He also achieved these feats late in his career in his 30's. I'm sure that he shared the bench in the League cup Final in 1991 with Trevor Francis and their combined age was something stupid like 73.I remember willing Big Ron to let him have his moment of glory.Peter Shirtliff and Paul Williams also represented the Massives that day.
I seem to remember he took a long time to sign a contract in 80/81 and he eventually reclaimed his place when Peter Shaw was injured.
What did he think was his best position?0 -
Do you think the thinwhiteduke is Millwall?0

Do you remember taking the worst Charlton penalty at The Valley since 1972 ?
I've seen all the games (bar 5) & imo , it was the worst.
It was in the 70's and at the South End.
If I remember correctly (probably don't), the ball went out the ground.
Does anyone remember this ?
As Richard J said, his career achievement after leaving Charlton was second only to Ralph Milne signing for Man U in the amazement stakes.0 -
How high above the bar do you think your penalty against Newcastle went?0

How does it feel to share your name with a truck?0

I think he married the daughter of Howard Wilkinson, Sheffield Wed manager after he left us for them, which might have had something to do with his regular selection for the ' massives'. Sorry Pete F But not one of the crowd's favourites from what I recall who came in for a bit of stick.Covered End said:Do you remember taking the worst Charlton penalty at The Valley since 1972 ?

Not sure but I know he had a very big dog (four legged variety) which he left with Walshie to look after for a while which nearly ate him out of house and home :-)Covered End said:That explains a lot.

I was one of those who gave him stick, my older brother loves him, I have done a brief interview with him at Sheff Weds last year.0

Underrated player who offered to race me round the block when I bumped into him and Mike Flanagan in The Ship and made a comment about his pace0

What does he remember about thumping a Leicester player and getting sent off ?0

Met up with Lawrie yesterday at Huddersfield, a really nice fella, although having to ask him about the penalty miss had me a little jumpy, next for us is hopefully Jim Melrose as soon as its confirmed I will post for questions.0
