Why do we not hold away fans back in for 20 mins after end of game in high risk games?

F82M - absolutely. I have stuff to do in the evening and was actually quite glad for the early kick-off. But as I have to go in-and-out of London it would be nice to be able to say to MrsCat 'I'll be home at 6' rather than have to phone her up and say 'I'll be home at 6 because there's been a last minute announcement that my knuckles are too far from the ground to be allowed to get on a train'0

Effectively the police are in a no-win situation.
If they don't take extra precautions and there is trouble, they will be criticised for not doing enough to prevent it.
If they take measures which are ultimately successful in preventing trouble, people will point to the lack of trouble and claim that the measures taken were unnecessary and excessive, as demonstrated already on this thread.
Would hate to be in their shoes.
Another thing to consider is that there is a risk that there is an element on both sides which may wish to instigate trouble. In this case, there may be good reasons why the police don't want to advertise their plans too far in advance of the match, which would only give the trouble-makers time to work around them.0 -
No, take them head on..0

That's fair enough but you surely eliminate the problem by simply keeping them in after the game. We all know we're a long way from being a West ham, cardiff or Leeds but if the police deem it high risk enough to make it an early kick off and shut pubs and shops then why let them out at the same time to get on the same trains.0 -
If the bars inside the valley are open till 3.30 it doesn't take a genius to know that Millwall we not be kept in0
-
Close the bars and keep them in for an hour like they did to us at theirs a few years ago. I would like to see their day made as difficult as possible.0

That was the Police plan a few weeks ago but it might have been changed.Brendan_O_Connell said:Thanks Henry, some truth in what I was told then.
But where is the truth ????CatAddick said:I asked Mick...
Hi
Thanks for the email,
I can advise you that the Police meeting for the Millwall game has not yet taken place, so no decisions have been made regarding the post-match operation.
Once we are aware of the details, the club will advise supporters accordingly.
Kind Regards

Have we ordered in a tanker of bleach to get rid of the pong when they've gone?

it makes a mockery of the segregated exits aruguments on JS stand, fans converge later on anyway as they all go towards the station.0

It would be the only time the whole football world would stand and give 2 minutes applause, rising to one large cheer as the match was struck.Jarman said:

Every other club would go out of their way to inconvenience the away fans for turning up. Seems we're the only club that does it to the home fans instead.0

i'm prettty sure back in the day for our first ever play off match at Ipswich away in 1987 they kept all the Ipswich in at the final whistle can anyone else remember that0
-
Yep, I'm sure I remember that too. It was a mad dash back to the train station to catch the London train to give me any chance of getting back to Bexleyheath before breakfast time. Happy days.oohaahmortimer said:i'm prettty sure back in the day for our first ever play off match at Ipswich away in 1987 they kept all the Ipswich in at the final whistle can anyone else remember that

If anyone went to the 2-1 England in Germany in 08 they locked the Germans in, let the English out with the biggest mile-long robocop escort I have ever seen in my life (there was a riot van end to end every step of the way both sides of the road)... there were then no trains at the station for 10 minutes to take us away and by the time we were in sight of they station they'd let the Germans out anyway!
Another tactical masterstroke.0 -
Can someone remind me when Charlton have kept the home fans in?
People here have mentioned it to be something that only we seem to do, but I don't recall it any time recently?0
